I have used both full face and nasal masks and established which pressure settings are required for each.

I would like the flexibility of switching between masks as required. For example, I usually use the full face mask (and this is good when I have a cold etc), but I used the nasal mask when I had recent mouth surgery.

I know from experience that if I phone the clinic to ask them to change the pressure it can take ages for them to respond.

When I asked if it was possible to have control of the pressure settings, they advised that this is done centrally. Though they also said some people have found out how to do it themselves!

Has anyone had experience of having control of the pressure settings?

I understand that central control is important when titrating the pressures in the early stages of treatment, but I know what suits me and would love to have the ability to change the setting.

Alternatively would an APAP machine solve the problem?

Diagnosed with OSA about 7/8 years ago by my local sleep clinic and given a F &P Icon CPAP. After a couple of follow-up appts to sort out any issues, I was sent on my merry way. I have had no further face to face contact with the clinic since, having first ordered my consumable online and then by phone (always answerphone, never a person!). Recently I have been having early morning headaches which go when I get up, and also quite extreme face marking from my full face mask. Tried phoning the sleep clinic number (answerphone telling me they are running a limited service) and asked them to call me back - but heard nothing.

So my questions are:

Should I be worried about the headaches do you think?

Should my CPAP have been serviced or checked in the last few years?

Could my pressure been incorrect? I have lost quite a bit of weight recently (deliberately) and wonder now if I need less pressure?

Any advice on the face marking issue - I use the mask liners (have done for almost all the time I have used the CPAP) but still get these really deep "dents" where the mask sits.

I wonder if I might benefit from an auto-set machine? They weren't available on prescription 7/8 years ago, but are they now? I guess it depends on your NHS Trust. I would happily buy one but am worried about not having any support in how to use it (from the Sleep Clinic).

Sorry to ramble on, but not sure how to proceed if I can't get to talk to someone at the Clinic.

Thanks for reading.

Hi.
I'm finding the Airsense 10 the hospital gave me, the humidifier chamber runs dry. It's not even on max settings, which I'm guessing would empty it a lot quicker. Seems like a big design oversight to me. Does anyone else have this trouble? The water supply in the Sleepcube they gave me before would last all night easily, but they don't use them any more.

Hi

I have regular, well yearly check ups at work. One being a hearing test. Since having my cpap machine my hearing has declined rapidly in 1 ear.....could this be as a result of pressure? I believe I'm on 15cm p max h2o. I just use a nasal mask.

Thanks

My machine isn't hooked up to Bluetooth or anything so the clinic won't be getting any of my readings so I've no idea whether the pressure on my machine is still appropriate for me.

In addition, I don't feel at all comfortable about using a machine that may have cancerous implications due to foam particles. (I believe lawsuits are taking place in the US around this.)

In short, I don't know if I'm doing myself more harm using the machine than not.

I know that the NHS is under incredible pressure and that the pandemic has caused a backlog at sleep clinics, but I just don't know what to do for the best.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you.

Received letter a few days later advising that earliest I could get a CPAP is 23rd December 2024 - over a year! This is in Oxford.

I'm prepared to go anywhere in the country to get a machine although South East/London would be easiest. Does anyone have any experience of better/worse waiting times?
