Thank you so much for this site. So pleased to find it and know people are going through the same as my son. We have had lots of trouble with masks for Peter he know has one that's been ok till the very loud whistling and squeezing starts the noise is sometimes horrendous . Glad to find cleaning wipes and dry sore skin cream on this site too. The hospital have been somewhat helpfully regarding bacterial filters back and front and with masks as well that's about it really. Thank you for this website looking forward to buying more stuff

Thanks Kathy for welcoming me! I have read up real well on sleep apnea on Daily Strength site. i dont understand what the numbers mean yet. All I know until March 1, 2013 is that out of 456 minutes of sleep i have 156 sleep apnea events and a total of 36 rem sleep and that the sleep apnea was worse during that time. i will find out more on March 1 when i see the pulmonary doctor about the results of the sleep study and then they will be setting up another sleep study with a cpap machine I think. One concern I have is that I also have insomnia and that is why I take seroquel when I sleep. i read that sleep specialists dont really want people with SA to use sleep aides but I have not slept naturally in years and years. So I hope they dont take me completly off of it. i have had my doctor cut me down form 400mg to 50mg gradually so that is much better. Thanks!

Thank you Kath for such a warm welcome. I saw your comment earlier on FB about the Buy, Sell Swap section and thought I'd come and see what is on offer... I've seen a couple of interesting things, but as per usual I'm out of depth and dithering xx

Hi Kath,
Thank you for such a warm welcome! I saw you mention the buy, sell swap page ad thought in should come and see what is being offered... I've seen things I'd like to know more about, but as usual, I'm so out of my depth and comfort zone I'm dithering!

Hi Kath, Thank you for the welcome and for the info about new member, Catherine; it seems that she has much the same respiratory difficulties as me but has had more time to have learned new swear words to throw at the mask!   I'm looking forward to making full use of your wonderful site and feel reassured that there are so many people out there who are willing to advise or encourage.

Kath, not sure if you subscribe to this online magazine, it's free, some things go over my head but other things are interesting.

Thanks Kath, I had a shocker here last night, I like going to bed at the same time each night 9.30pm but last night stayed up till 11.00pm first mistake, then at midnight just as I was getting into a nice deep sleep some selfish person started setting off fireworks outside my place, it would have been quieter in Afganistan or Iraq grrrr, I woke up and took my mask off to see what was going on, then forgot to put it back on. Anyway my first new years whinge, hopefully tonight will be quieter. Have a good night sleep.

Kath, hope you had a good Christmas and I better wish you and your family a happy new year, it is new years eve here. I didn't adopt social media from the start and still try to adapt it, I still dont have a lot of time for it would rather spend more time on SA sites, anyway Happy 2013.

Thanks Kath; I want to have the best chance of success with my machine when I get it.  I know someone who was diagnosed with SA some years ago and gave up on the CPAP very quickly; I am determined to try anything that will help me to get used to it, so thought it best to be prepared!

Thank you Kath for the links. I have tapped on to the video of the resmed cpap and it was extremely useful and I have now found out things I didn't know about the machine. The machine has helped me so much and I now feel really rested when I wake-up in the morning. I went to the Sleep Apnea Conference last month which I found very helpful too. It was really well attended and I didn't realise that so many people suffer this sleep disorder. I am so glad I have found this website as it really is good to read about others with sleep apnea and hopefully I can add my experiences too. Kindest Regards to all, Maggi

Thank you very much for the welcome. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple of months ago. I use a resmed elite CPAP machine with a resmed humidifier. I am happy with the machine but I don't really know a lot about the condition. For example I see people mention the number of AHI's they have but I'm not familiar with this. Anyway I'm sure I will learn more here and look forward to joining in on the forum from time to time.
Kind regards Maggi

Kath, Brownie34 is a friend from another site, she is new to SA and having a few issues. I suggested she join here as I'm going to try to show her how to use Sleepyhead but she uses a Respironics and I use a Resmed so once she downloads the software and gets a card reader thought you or one of the others maybe able to give some help as well, I'm sure you would anyway. She seems like a nice lady that just needs some support and assistance and really wants to get her therapy working.

Thanks Kath for such a warm welcome as someone very recently diagnosed and new to this sudden and life changing condition it all seemed at bit daunting and worrisome. Your support has already made me realise there is help out there and my apnoea has become a lot less worrisome

Thank you

Kath, I've logged a call and will follow up, they don't respond as fast as you do so it may take a couple of days, Terry. I don't know why but I have problems sending messages on here but comments are OK.

Kath, yes, it is saying your account has been closed, I don't think you have done anything wrong, I saw another lady that has been closed which I didn't think should have been. They do close them for scammers but your not a scammer. Can you log on at all to log a call or do you want me to follow up or do you want to try to open a new account? Let me know, Terry.

Thanks Kath for the warm welcome. I've been aware of my apnea problem
I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea
about 10 years or so ago. I really never took it too seriously until recently when
it came up in a conversation I had with my cardiologist. He feels that the thickening
to the left side of my heart is attributed to my sporadic use of CPAP therapy over
the years that I've had this sleep apnea situation. He told me its reversible over time
if I religiously use my machine every night. I am pleased to say that I have been rock
solid for the past 4 months as to using my machine.
solid for the past 4months and have never slept better.

am wondering if it is just me or is it normal...but my nose is now very sensitive it is tender to touch and I seem to sneeze a lot more and get hay fever more frequently...

Now of cause I  may not be doing the right things with my equipment...I have always cleaned my nose piece every morning and I usually wash my headgear and hose once a week with a mild baby shampoo and I leave the water in my humidifier for 3 days before I clean it I let it soak for a short while in vinegar and water then rinse it out with the same baby shampoo...I am also not sleeping very well at all, I am not sure how frequently I should get checked to see if the settings are still correct for me. I have been using my machine with the same setting since January I have turned down the humidifier as I was experiencing rain out...
Hope you can advise me
