Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi all,

I am in quandary as I have used every type of mask the clinic can offer me. I was recently given a nose pillow mask after I told them about the irritation caused by my full face mask and was told after that there was nothing the could give me. By the way I have complex apnea which means it can be both central apnea and obstructive apnea. With the pillow mask I woke up in such pain and burning sensation I was in real pain, with the face mask I get skin irritation (no marks or red botches) and that stops me using the cpap machine at night. I feel the clinic will give up on me as they will say there is nothing they can give me now. Any help or suggestions that will help with the painful experience I am having with all the masks I have tried please. I am getting desperate now.

HI

I know the frustration and extreme annoyance associated with masks. My clinic had a very limited type of mask on offer.. Take itor leave it.  I suffered from skin irration, blotches and marks on my nose and face. Tried creams pads etc to no avail. I resorted to buying masks - not a cheap solution.

You don't say what masks you have tried but about a yeer ago I purchased a Dreamwear mask on Kath Hope's recommendation. It was and is wonderful as far as I am concerned and in fact I have just ordered a replacement.  It's lightweight, easy put on and off - great for getting it off when you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, and a bonus is that you can use it with glasses for reading in bed.

If you haven't tried this mask then give it a go. I was sceptical when I saw it at first - didn't believe it would work, but it has transformed my sleep experience.

Maybe you have a reaction to silicone?

What type of Nasal Pillows did they give you and what sore of pressures are you on?

CPAP or APAP?

Do you have a humidifier?

Nasal Pillows can irritate the inside of the nose until you get used to them being there.  However, some humidity can help quite a lot, if you are on a higher pressure it can be hard on the inside of the nostrils.

You can get gels to help, I am sure Hope2sleep will be along shortly, or look in the shop for the gel.

CPAP Total Face Mask

I was curious whether anyone has used the CPAP Total Face Masks and could pass on their observations? I've been using an Airfit F20 for years which is fine apart from the permanent red mark on the bridge of my nose, and have recently tried the…See More

Pressure waking me up. Belching and wind

HiI'm using the prisma smart max machine. Initially I was just on a nasal mask, this changed as I was sleeping with my mouth open. I then went to face and nose mask and complained of bad wind and belching. Sometimes the pressure in the night was…See More

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More
