At Home With Rufus:-
This is a newly released paperback book written by Mother and Son, Marion Maz and Steve B Mason, with lovely illustrations by Kristina-Rose Sears, and its main aim is to subtly take the fear out of CPAP devices in children, as the book just treats it as a ‘normal’ part of life
NOTE TO PARENTS FROM THE AUTHORS:-
If you need to use a CPAP or a Ventilator Machine at night it is natural to worry about your children’s reaction. Will they be upset if they see you with a mask on your face? What will they think about the hose hanging from it? This book was written specially for families like yours. It aims to show that the machine is just a useful gadget that some people use to make life easier for them. Our hero, Rufus the Chatty Chimp, has lots of interesting things in his home, including his CPAP and its mask which help him when he’s poorly. Rufus invites the child to look around his home as he describes all the things he uses each day. His CPAP is just one of those useful every-day things. He likes it - it is part of his usual bed-time routine, and he is shown wearing the mask and sleeping soundly. Read the book with your child and discuss each item as it appears - the CPAP is just another one of these normal things. Encourage your child to get involved with the story by searching for the mouse that is hiding about the house.
