Hi Grace
Just butting in on your conversation with Jan. Please don't suffer alone and let us know your problems. Also take Jan up on her offer to email - she's a great source of positiveness and you are welcome to contact me too.
3 weeks is very early in your treatment, and if you read My Story you'll know I didn't adapt straight away either. Also check out the Blog www.sleepapnoeablog.com
Best Wishes

Dear Grace
I was diagnosed just about a year ago, but unlike you, I was falling asleep at work and sometimes even mid sentence when talking to someone. Still wasn't bothered until I was questioned by a physician in some depth, when I was having an assessment for an operation. I went for my trial sleep over test using a mask, and that was that, I became a CPAP user. Don't get me wrong, I hated wearing it and threw the mask across the room on more that one occassion and cried a lot, but I knew I would never be able to have the operation I so needed to have because the anaesthetist had already told me I had only a 1 in 100 chance of survival after the op, without using the CPAP. So.. I persevered, but still ripped the mask off as soon as I awoke, even if it was 4 in the morning, which I now realize was silly of me to fall asleep again without it on. Eventually I got used to it and now call it my sleeping tablet. I have a good 8 hours sleep each night, never wake up, unless the dog jumps on me, but I can honestly say.......I DO NOT feel as refreshed as everyone says I should feel, I'm just pleased to have had a nights sleep, and even more pleased to wake up the next day, because without, you may not! Yes I did have my operation in February this year, and took all my equipment into hospital with me. I hoped that the operation I had would have helped towards my not having Sleep Apnoea any more and could do away with the equipment, but after learning, just recently, how many apnoeas I had on average an hour [127] it will now become my lifelong friend.
I hope this might have helped you a little, and Kath is always there to give you all the benefit of her knowledge or just an email hug, whenever you need it.
Feel free to keep in touch my email if you would like it is:- lady.jan13@btinternet.com
