The next Drop-in Day is in Huddersfield at the National Children's Centre, and looks for an informative day, as well as the chance to meet with existing sleep apnoea sufferers. Representatives will be there with their CPAP machines and masks, and we will be there too with the products.

There are planned talks on the following topics:

Central Sleep Apnoea

(You have central sleep apnoea when you stop breathing in sleep but you don't snore. It means that your brain forgets to command your body to breathe. In other words, central sleep apnoea occurs when the airway is NOT blocked, but the brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe because there is an underlying problem with the nerves that control breathing).

Central Sleep Apnoea is being diagnosed in a greater number of patients being referred to the Sleep Service, and
Martin Latham (St James’s Sleep Service ) will give a talk on this subject in the morning and afternoon sessions .
Positional Apnoea
According to the experts at the American College of Chest Physicians, as many as 60% of the patients with obstructive sleep apnoea experience a lowering of symptoms when they slept on their side as opposed to on their back. They estimate that as many as 50% of the people that experience sleep apnoea could be successfully treated by using positional therapy.  Johan Terpstra (Intus Healthcare ) will give a talk on this subject in the morning and afternoon sessions .
Diabetes and Apnoea
A member of the St James’s Team will give a presentation on this key topic. More information will be available on the day!
Practical Sessions
There will also be practical sessions on:
• Mask fitting
• Routine maintenance of your CPAP

There will also be time to talk with fellow patients and clinicians without feeling hurried!

Tea and Coffee will be available throughout the day.
You are welcome to bring a picnic, but there are cafes close by.

Stalls

• We will have jams and home baking for sale
• A Tombola
• A Bring and Buy stall for paperback books and jigsaws. A guide price is £1.00 per item.

All money raised on these stalls is used to support the work of the Support Group and Sleep Service.

If you and a family member or friend are planning to attend, please get in touch with the organisers via:-
• E-mail: Stjamessasg@googlemail.com
• Using the “Contact us link from their Website
• Telephoning on 0845 4632087

Directions

Leave the motorway at Junction 24 signposted “Huddersfield”, take the A629 into Huddersfield town. Follow this road until you reach a mini-roundabout, ignore the left-hand turn for the ring-road. Once at the mini roundabout turn left and follow signs for the ring road –A62. Once you have passed through a set of lights into the ring road, turn left at the first set of lights. About 100metres through the pedestrian lights turn left. Brian Jackson House is the first large setback building on the right.
