Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi

yet another question...... having a debate with my health visitor

My 2 sons 3yr old and 16mth both use a Graesby MR10 monitor at night however my health visitor said I should not be using them in a child over one she cant say why and said there isnt any other monitor to use for their ages

Other than the obvious strangulation risk ( I put sensor down pj legs so no risk ! )why wouldnt it be advisable to use

Do you know of any other apnoea monitors for their ages on the market

Thanks

Carol

I had a look on their website and it said to be used up to 18 months.  However, do you think they just say that because the SIDS risk is normally up to aged 1?  Like you, I can't think of another reason why it wouldn't be suitable.

Hi Kath

Thanks once again for trying to find answers to the questions I cant seem to get answers to :)

I think you may be right and I cant find anything else on the market that suits a child over that age !!! It may be that there isnt a profitable market for them and not that there isnt a need for them which I know isnt the case (would love it if it was).

I have asked her to give me written information stating It cant be used over the age stated and the reason why :)  I know the boys will have grown a beard by then so the MR10 stays put till they arent needed !

Good for you Carol.  There's nobody who'll look after your 3 'boys' more than you, and thank God they have you :)

"Just to tidy this up, I finally had an in-person review by my sleep clinic yesterday, who agreed the ResMed AirSense 10 was "wheezy" and replaced the machine."

1st time and I’ve failed the mask leak test

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More

"Nope, I just accept that some people's throats tend to close when they sleep, due to a loss of muscle tone during deeper sleep.  Back when I was diagnosed, the sleep lab just filmed you whilst you slept, stuck an O2 meter on your finger,…"
