I have never done that because the general consensus is that any addition to the humidifier chamber might corode the metal plate. However, I do get the odd cold and frequently suffer from blocked nose at least on one side and my answer which works well is to add a few drops of olbas oil to a tissue, lay ithe tissue on a saucer and place below the air intake. This works extremely well but I cannot tolerate it all night and by 3am I usually move the saucer a few inches back and then I might be good for the rest of the night or replace the saucer. Be aware that the smell lingers in the tube and mask for a few days even after washing. I meet a lot of people using cpap at my local clinic drop in every Wednesday and many of those do this now. I am looking at the instructions on the olbas oil box and it says to do exactly this for everybody over the age of 2, two to three drops on a tissue tucked into the pillowcase for all night relief. So it can only do good. Eric

I use that stuff you get for kids in a capsule that you sprinkle onto their pillows.

Put on a tissue close to the air filter it works wonders.

I forget the name of it as I have run out.  I can't look for the carton as it was recycled!
