Could I have developed Central Sleep Apnoea ?

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea Jan 2017 after hiring a device from Hope2sleep. Think I had this problem for around 10 years. I eventually got my cpap machine in August 2017. I have had a few ups and downs, and had my machine adjusted a couple of times. I get on ok with the full mask (except when it was very hot this summer, where a few nights I found that I had taken it off without knowing I did) Hospital said they were happy with me, and they have me down for a yearly appointment.
However over these past few months I wake in the morning sometimes, and feel short of breath, and aware sometimes though awake but still sleepy that I am not breathing well. When I get up I feel tired and a ill for the next hour or so. Could I be having CSA? My app tells me I am having between 1.6- 4.4 apnoeas an hour over the last few months. I have a finger oximeter and my SpO2 is 94/95 on waking. Is there a test that will tell me if I am having any CSA's. What should my my next step? Thanks

I don't think those symptoms are specific to central sleep apnoea. Your app should tell you if those apnoeas are obstructive or centrals. It sometimes says 'CA.' Sometimes when people first wake it takes a while to revert to normal breathing after being on the machine. It would be worth having blood tests for Vit D, B12, thyroid and diabetes to rule those out as a cause.

Thanks for your answer Kath. The app I have is Philips Dreamapper . It tells me minimum/maximam/ 90% pressure, My AHI and mask fit, Hours usage. I cant see anything about obstructive or centrals. Is my app out of date, or my machine?

Hi Judy,
Try drinking a glass if water before going to bed. Dehydration can play a part in the mornings.
