Do tongue exercises work ?
Hi,
I saw a study on the internet in which OSA was alleviated with tongue exercises, and some UK medics recommend exercises - thinking of Mike Dilkes, but I spoke to a local consultant and he said there was no evidence that exercises work. Is there anything definitive to know about this ?

Sorry, but I missed your post. Tongue exercises have been proven to work to improve sleep apnoea but, depending on the severity, don't usually cure it unless very mild and assuming the tongue is the only cause of the sleep apnoea. Thing is, I'd have thought if there was evidence that exercises and things like singing had a positive effect on marginal cases, then you might not have to prescribe expensive and annoying equipment like CPAP machines so often. Ideally, I would want the diagnostic service to say whether my case (for example) is marginal enough to be fixed by exercises, or if I really do need the machine forever. In my ideal the hospital would diagnose OSA, then stream me straight to the right experts for the fine detail diagnoses and therapies, rather than having to shop around piecemeal across a random selection of doctors and dentists. End to end service type of thing. Is that too idealistic ?
