Dry Mouth
Hi, hoping for some advice here.
Due to a mix of my meds and my CPAP I wake several times a night with a dry mouth - dry as in everything stuck together and no saliva at all. I keep sugar free mints by the bed and when I wake I take a mouthful of water to rinse and rehydrate, then suck a mint to get the saliva flowing again.
I have a humidifier, although until I get a heated hose I can only have it at level 2 due to rainout (I have a hose hugger too but it doesn't seem to help.)
Has anyone had anything similar, and if you have how did you manage it?

Try siting your machine and humidifier at a level lower than you matress top and using a HoseLIft or whatever, make sure the hose runs uphill all the way and/or as far as possible before it descends to your mask. The theory behind this is that most of the hose runs uphill so most of the condensed water will run downhill back into the humidifier.
For your dry mouth, Biotene in one of its many forms - liquid, gel, de dah.

Hi, I am a new apnoea sufferer and have been on CPAP now for about 3 weeks, the first week was the assessment machine which I had a few problems with like waking up every hour on it :( but once I got my other machine I thought it was a lot better, until that is as the writer above stated, I wake up more than a couple of times, I would say at least every 2 hours with the mouth really dry and again as above everything stuck to the roof of my mouth. My machine is a ResMed S9 escape..and my mask is a Quattro FX. I did try a fitlife full face mask but I still woke up with a dry mouth and also I heard the air coming through the mask which I do not hear with the Quattro FX. I am tireder now at nights than I was before I was diagnosed with sleep apnoea :( I will try Biotene from the chemists and also XyliMelts from your link Kath but if a humidifier will help will give the hospital a phone and see if I can get one from them. Would a humidifier help do you think?

Absolutely Isla. Most people NEED humidification with full face masks so I would ring your hospital to get one before trying other fixes. Good luck...

It's still early days Isla, and hard no doubt for you to spend too much time sorting yourself out with the business of christmas. Obviously, your shift work is an added problem too, but you're doing well at this stage. I remember feeling even more tired at the beginning too.

Thanks Mary, I have phoned the hospital and waiting on a nurse phoning me back about a humidifier, but I will keep Biotene in mind if I don't get any relief from the humidifier, once I get it, but then if its going to be a while before I can get one I might try the Biotene in the meantime. Thanks again for replying
