Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Despite using fleece covers on my mask straps, I still get marks on my face that take ages to go away. The marks are now starting to become permanent. Does anyone have any tips please?

Hi Margaret. My first thought for your problem was to use the double strap covers rather than the single ones, but having just had a quick check to see if you bought them from us I found that you have got the double strap covers, so I was very surprised to hear you're still having problems as they usually sort this.  I'm wondering if your straps are too tight on the mask as many people think they have to over-tighten them to get a good seal, whereas over-tightening can actually cause leaks.  However, as a CPAP user myself I totally understand that this is easier said than done, and as I stated in the other discussion about the SleepWeaver last night, the company who sell that mask couldn't even help me get a good seal with it so I'm sure I too would have been pulling the straps tight if I had one.  I'm not familiar with the straps on the SleepWeaver so am wondering if they're perhaps made of a tougher material that on traditional masks.  I do know a few people who use that mask so I'll ask them.

Just another thought is whether you're drinking enough water during the day to hydrate your skin?  If not, it might be worth upping your levels to see if this helps.  Also a good daytime moisturiser.  I do empathise with your problem as years ago I used to wake up with dreadful marks on my face - not just from the straps but from the actual mask cushion as well.  Let us know if you find a solution please and good luck!
