First night with CPAP
So last night was my first with my new CPAP machine (a Philips DreamStation with an Amara style mask), and got on surprisingly well. It took me a while to fall asleep and woke briefly a handful of times in the night but I would say it was very successful on the whole.
I feel a lot brighter today than usual so hopefully after the first few weeks I'll feel even better.
Following my poor experience with Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Trust, I have to say that the team at the Stoke University hospital were first class. Plenty of information provided and support, a very quick turnaround and overall excellent experience. I have been diagnosed with an AHI of 21 (which was a lot lower than I expected) and according to my DreamStation, last night my AHI was 8.4, so a marked improvement.
I've already ordered some of the face cream, and cleaning wipes & spray so hopefully this will further enhance my already positive CPAP experience.
Thank you again to everyone's experiences and comments throughout the forum that I have read, it certainly helps!

Hi Andy. That's a good first night and sounding positive already. You may find your AHI comes down over the next few nights. Ideally we're looking for it to be up to 5 which is classed as 'normal.'
Your other goods will be despatched, but there will be a short delay on the popular CPAP Cream as it's currently in UK Customs and it's like watching paint dry as we await it's release.
One of the products our charity sell is the CPAP Hose Lift, and if only the NHS could supply it then it would help so many people as it prevents the tugging of the mask on the face which causes leaks. Hi Kath,
I'm hoping the next few nights will see me get my AHI down further, but i'm also keen not to put too much pressure on the situation.
I have to say i'm very impressed with the Hope2Sleep service so far, with regular updates regarding my order! Thank you for the prompt part despatch and the update regarding the cream. I have dealt with UK Customs in a previous job and distinctly remember it being extremely tedious!
Ah yes, it's funny you should say that as I did struggle with the hose hooked over the headboard last night and almost felt scared to move as I almost pulled the mask off when I rolled over at one point!

Hi Andy, don't get to hung up on numbers, it is more how you feel that coults, though DVLA don't think so.
Small tweaks in your pressure and getting used to the machine and mask will bring it down.
It is not normal to have a machine blowing air at you all the time and have an alien on your face all night, so it will take you a while to get used to it. More important is to keep using it and get used to it, then after a while you can get your numbers down a bit, though if you get below 5 you are doing well, but don't get hung up on it.
