Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has used this mask as I am thinking about asking for this mask when I am due a new mask in October as I have the Quarta Air which I not getting on it that well so currently  I'm using Fitlife and Perform full face mask. I am getting sores around the mouth area because of sweating and also dribbling from the left side of my mouth.  For some reason I only dribble from the left side of the mouth and I dont know why but I am slightly weaker on that side of the body.

1. How did you find the mask?

2. What was the fit like?

3. Was easy to keep clean?

4. How often did you need to replace the cushion?

5. How easy was it click together?

6. Did you find that it leaked a lot?

7. Would you recommend it to someone else as a good mask?

8. How easy is it to click the clips on to the mask? (Especially if you have problems with your hands)

9. Does the NHS supply these masks?

Hi

Do you have any suggestions as my eczema is playing me up at the moment. Where the mask touches the skin it is sore and red.  I havent changed the way I am cleaning the mask.  The first place where it started up was on the eye brows now it has spread to the temples, ears and nose and chin.  I am using my creams during the day but not at night because the mask wouldnt stay where it needs to be.

Dee

There is special CPAP Moisture Therapy Cream available Dee that can be used with the masks without damaging them and is safe if inhaled http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/products/24

You could also try making a liner for your mask from an old t-shirt material.  Also check that whatever you're using to clean your mask is completely removing all traces of facial oils, and also that if it's detergent then you're rinsing it really well, in case it's a reaction to the detergent.

cut down on processed meat like bacon, coffee ect

when you apply any cream apply as thin as possible the skin must breath

I tried the one especially for CPAP treatment but it made me itch so that is out too.  I am finding that I am getting too hot with the full face mask but if I tried the quattro Air I get too many leaks.

Dee

Not heard of anyone itching from the cream before Dee so that's a shame.  Try making a mask liner, and the liner might help sort the leaks out on the Quattro Air too.  Here's a discussion we had about them http://hope2sleepguide.co.uk/forum/topics/masks-and-air-leaks

I have just been put on two more medications to treat hay fever.  Beconaise and an eye treatment that I have to use twice a day.  Will this make the central sleep apnoea worse.

Dee

central s  come from neurological and i do-not see how these both treatments can affect you

doctors usually have a computer that cross-reference these drugs and would flag-up incompatibilities

or contraindications

The sleep doctor wants me to come of some of my medications because he felt that these medications where causing the CSA, I have reduced the Gabapentin by 1200-mg and this week I will reduce Tramadol by 50-mg and then the following week to see if I can get rid of the morning one and then the evening one.  I am not sure if I am willing to reduce the anti-depressants because currently they are working so I dont want to change things.  I will speak to my GP about what to do with the anti-depressants to see if they could be reduced slowly.

I am having problems with quite large with Quattra Air which in turn has increased my numbers.  I am going to swoop back to the Fitlife but I am finding the mask too hot to wear especially as the nights will get warmer.  I am finding that I am getting a lot of marks on my face which take hours to fade.  I will try the old head gear to see if that helps but the velcro isnt as sticky as it should be.

Dee

Hi
I have used the F&P Simplus mask having tried a few others including the Quattro Air. I have found it the best yet.
Re your questions 1. Very good. 2. No problem. 3.Easy. 4 not yet should last at least 18 months I am told. 5. Just one simple click. 6. No. 7. Yes. 8.dont know, I'm in Australia.

Re sores around mouth either make a cloth barrier from tee shirt material or look at Pad a Cheek liners. See www.padacheek.com. They work very well, made from very fine micro fibre material which is inert and will not irritate the skin.

John

Hi

I have just ordered the Quattro Air Mask liner from Pad-a-Cheek and I think that £14.11 isnt bad. Hopefully it will help with the leaks and also currently my eczema on my face so I need to use creams on my face.  Has anyone ordered from Pad-a-Cheek and how long does it take to get it from the US.  I will let you know how I get on with the mask liner.
