Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

I was wondering if anyone has used the Fitlife full face mask?

I am having terrible problems with my masks. They all leak and make a terrible noise. I have to fasten them so tight that they mark my face terribly. I am so sore and embarrassed when I have to go out on a morning. Trouble is £175 is a lot to pay if it doesnt work.

I still dont feel great even though I am perservering. I have been on CPAP since 21/12/12, not long I know but have been reading about sleep debt. Could it be that years of sleep deprivation can take time to repay?

Is it unusual to have not seen a consultant? I was referred by my GP and had an appt to see a consultant but only saw a sleep nurse.

Thanks in anticipation of replies.

Hi julie.

Firstly, what masks have you used, most actually fit better if left a little looser than you may expect. Also have you been given a full face mask or just nasal, nasal only tends to fit better and you again may be surprised!

Hi Julie

I use the FitLife myself, and for exactly the same problems you're having - my biggest problems were sores on the bridge of my nose and marks from the seal.  Men do suffer from this problem too, but definitely women are worse due to their softer faces.  If it's just strap marks you get, then they can be easily fixed with these strap covers http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/products/22  However, for me it wasn't just the straps, it was the masks themselves.  The FitLife goes nowhere near the nasal bridge and seals around the edge of your face, so there are no facial marks.  The other mask I use is the Hybrid as again that goes nowhere near the nose area.  Take a look at the blog I did on different masks Choosing CPAP/BiPAP Masks Blog

Hi Symmit,

Thanks for your reply. I have three masks:

ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face
Fisher & Paykel 431 Full Face
Fisher & Paykel 406 Nasal

I cant get along with the nasal one as I breath through my mouth as well as my nose, even with a chin strap and it makes my facial pain (TMJ) much worse. The Resmed mask has left me with huge lumps on my forehead and nose bridge and around the nose which are all very sore. The same with the F&P full face around the nose and bridge. I have tried fastening the straps looser but the noise and leaks are too much. I am thinking of trying the Fitlife and possibly the Hybrid.

Thanks again for your reply
