Getting driving licence back from the DVLA. How long, etc.

I am a newbie here having been referred by Tez62 of the http://www.apneaboard.com/forums
I have had my driving licence taken away by the DVLA and started using an APAP machine on Monday 2nd December 2013 four days ago.
Results from the SD card records looked promising after Wednesday and Thursday night sleep and the NHS have said that I may take in the SD card to them 2 weeks after starting with the APAP machine, i.e. on 16 December 2013.
As soon as I learn from the NHS that my OSA syndrome is controlled I will reapply for my driving licence.
How long may it take before the DVLA restores my licence to drive?
What are members' experiences in this issue please?

I agree with your penultimate paragraph regarding the DVLA. Much more efficient.
I've found that the NHS trust here and where I am being treated at the Royal Hampshire Count Hospital, WInchester is excellent, both in and out-patient services. My APAP that is for me to keep was ready for me to collect very quickly and the expert staff answered my phone call to discuss progress the same day I left a message.

Great to hear Michael, as it depends which postcode people live in as to the speed and efficiency of their local clinic. Most certainly don't supply APAP, apart from when initially on treatment to check for correct pressure when they then get it swapped over for CPAP. I hear from people all the time who have to wait months for therapy which is unnerving once they've been told how many times they're stopping breathing whilst asleep!

A suggestion below to others (who do not get sleepy while driving and drive with due care and attention) when they get a letter from the NHS that they have sleep apnoea.
The letter I received from the NHS confirming that I had sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome stated that I should let the DVLA know of this diagnosis.
So writing a simple letter to the DVLA stating the above would have been sufficient initially.
Being naive I looked on the DVLA website for a form to complete instead. The rest is history: a blunt order to stop driving.

P.S. (I think DVLA form SL1 is a rather unfair and uncompromising blunt weapon regarding perhaps the few safe drivers who have never been sleepy while driving).
