Hello, have just found out my 3 yr old son has SA :((

Hello all.
My son is 3 and has always been a poor sleeper from birth. He has had numeouros health problems, from bronclitis to asthma
We recently got referred to ent bcus he had glue ear.
I mentioned his sleepin how poor it was,and that he sleep talks. Alway tired, and behaoiur is hard work in the daytime.
So arranged a sleep study.
Results was sleep apnea.
Least seconds stop breathing was 15 most being 90!! Numerous times.
They are goin to take his adenoid and tonsils out in the next 6 weeks.
I'm bloody petrifed tho,now set up camp in his room to watch him.
Is there anythin i can do??
Also anyone out there with kids simalir age? Can u offer any advice, exp etc.
Thankyou.

keep to your normal weight or just under helps

make sure they run around if possible to keep weight down

regulate strictly bed times and  proper sleep hygiene, little or no late nights if possible. i know he has asthma which can sometimes make that difficult

two cups of coffee helps when an asthma attack happens this stimulate the heart to cope better

for wheezyness i use water for immediate relief, followed straight-away by medication and then honey to extend  the benefits of the medication taken

He is only 3 and i think at normal weight.

He has same routine, but gets v kranky around 2pm.

Thanku for the tips with the asthma but as he is only 3 i think coffee isn't suitable.

He is shecduled for his op on 10th aug,so scared.....but hopin this will sort my wee boy out.

Thankyou for all the messages n support means alot.

T xx

Nice to hear from you Tracey, as have been thinking about you.  Hopefully, the operation next month will sort him out and it's 'normal' to be anxious when it's our children.  They know he has asthma and sleep apnoea, so he'll be in good hands I'm sure :)

Thnaks Kath,my poor lad been in hssi for 2 days got home yest. Asthma attack, that i couldnt control at home so had dail 999. :( He on the mend, what scared me was wen he was asleep he had the sat monitor on his levels was 77. Had to have oxygen on the whole time. Hopin this op does srt him out,i'm goin out my mind with worry.

So sorry to hear this Tracey.  10 days to go, and then hopefully he'll be on the road to better health and you can breathe out again yourself!  Hang in there  Tracey :)

Kath pre op today. Op on fri may be cancelled :( cause he been on stereods. He finished them last week, but said anaesthetist may say no and it be in 6 weeks!!! Omg. If it is this Fri,he will be staying in overnight.  Like you said they looked at his report, so that's what will happen, which is fine. I just wanna know now when it is. argh xx

I know this is hard Tracey, but try to take comfort that they have your son's best interests at heart, and won't operate if there's a chance it could be dangerous.  At least they know his full history, as a lot of times children have their tonsils removed and  they have no idea the child may have sleep apnoea.  Hopefully, it will be this Friday, but if not then it will be the 'right' thing for your son, even though it won't feel like it for your stress levels.  Hang in there!

Thanks ,just it wud of been better now for many reasons, because he is ill and because he was in hpssi other week, plus I start  college Sept + he starts school, so I'm like oh no!!

I agree with what you're sayin tho.

I rang hospital today, she wa ment ring me oh won't b able tell me tomor as anethtis on study leave!! Was so mad,i got work sort out etc also. Just wanna know as I am stressed,.

But what will be will be.

Thanks

BRILLIANT NEWS Tracey, and keep in mind that no way would the anaesthetist have agreed to the op if it wasn't safe for your son.  I shall be thinking of you (and no doubt others on here who've read your postings will too).  Look forward to your next update Tracey.  All the best to you both :-)

Thankyou hun .

Hi Kath just lettin you know my son had his op.It went well although he ended up on a drip due to not drinkin any fluids, aso wouldn't eat anythin. We managed to get him to eat n drink by 5pm the next day so got to go home. Since then i haven't seen any improvements, but then it's early days.
