how long should i wait for my cpap machine
ive been diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea about 6 weeks ago and told it could be up to 8 months till i get the cpap machine, is this the normal waiting time?

8 months is a long time to wait Mat, especially now you've been told it's severe. Which clinic are you with? It does vary throughout the UK though and some are much quicker than others.

Ah, I think Wales does have a longer waiting list, according to a lot of our Facebook Group members. Worth ringing them to say you're willing to go on a short notice cancellation list though. It really does seem to be a long time to wait. Have they told you not to drive in the meantime?

Good god that's awful! I literally walked out of the hospital with mine right after diagnosis. It's shocking that there is still a postcode lottery in the NHS.
I really hope you get your machine much quicker and wish you the best with it.

hi Mat, I was diagnosed july 2016, by letter, then nothing apart from a letter asking if I still need an appointment? I sent back yes then nothing. I dont have a problem waiting for things but was just unsure if I was even on a list, so I phoned my gp reception, which gave me the number for the hospital which I rang and explained the situation and got a cansalation for that same friday. That friday I was on my way home with the test cpap machine to start my treatment. That appointment was 3 weeks ago. The lovely nurse who delt with me said that the whole sleep department is very underfunded and short staffed and causes massive tail backs.

Some areas have to wait for approval and funding for a CPAP machine, which I think is nonsense.
Wales I think is one of the worst areas for Sleep Apnoea.
But 8 months is a bit silly!
Some clinics get round the restrictions by keeping their repaired machines so they can give them out.
I would write to my MP and hope he knows what you are talking about.
I wrote to my MP once and he didn't know anything about Sleep Apnoea, he is fully up to speed now though after all the letters he got when the government were going to cut funding for Sleep Apnoea.
Also write to the director of the hospital trust, they do not like bad publicity if you know what I mean.
