Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

I go to clinic tomorrow, wednesday, to try out yet more masks. I have been given a few already, but none seal. Also I find the forehead support gives me a terrible headache. I would like to try the Quattro FX full face as it has no forhead support. Am I within my rights to ask to try this particular mask out or would this be taken as me being too bossy?

I also had a terrible time finding a mask that worked at the beginning and went through practically every one the hospital stocked.  Don't worry about suggesting masks to your clinic - just tell them you've been looking online.  The Quattro FX has had some good reviews so I hope your clinic stocks this one for you to try.  Which masks have you tried and are they full face or nasal?
Hello Kath.. Thanks for your reply. I tried a comfort nasal and it turned me into a sleeping dragon with air shooting out of my mouth, hahaha.  All the others have had forhead supports and they give me really bad headaches. I am keeping on until tomorrow. After then, surely they will let me try the want. I am not normally a pushy person but this is very important to me and my life.
Hmm..... I'm wondering if you need a full face mask if you say the air was escaping through your mouth.  If you're a mouth breather like me, then you'll need one.  You can still get them without pressure on your forehead.  The FX comes in full face too.  There's also the Mirage Liberty and the Hybrid which have the nasal pillows up the nostrils and have no forehead support.  If I'm wrong and you don't need a full face then there are several nasal only masks with the nasal pillows.  Good luck Carolyn........!

Hi Carolyn

Your last sentence says it all - " I am not normally a pushy person but this is very important to me and my life." I would substitute 'assertive' for 'pushy' and then go for my life - literally. The NHS is about patients - even if they don't know it! - and as such you can require them to supply the mask of your choice. They may resist and resist, but at the end of the day it all comes down to a them having to make a small effort. Masks are much of a muchness in terms of cost so the difference is in them having to discover the manufacturer, part number and filling out a separate order form. You could supply them with all the info they would need to order your mask. Do you know which size Quattro FX you need? Call RealSleep Resmed - they gave their number in the Quattro FX Review thread - and ask for a sizing tool.

If all fails with NHS, can you afford £95 to buy a Q FX from Resmed?

I went to clinic today. I explained why I wanted to try thr mask. The nurse specialist said she would get funding for it and then order it for me. This afternoon she telephoned me to say everything went through ok and my mask is on order. Will probably get it next week. Let's see how I get on with this one. I will post when I start to use it, to let you all know what I think of it.
Great service there Carolyn and look forward to hearing how you get on with it.

1st time and I’ve failed the mask leak test

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More
