New Respironics Go_Life Mask
Does anyone have any experience of this new mask?
It looks quite promising to me and I might try to persuade them to supply one when I am next due for a change.

I've tried it for a short while (a rare afternoon nap) and found it comfortable. It seems sturdier than the Swift FX pillows that I use, if a little noisier (albeit not noisy in itself).

Sorry Derek, I must have missed this discussion you started, until Hypnagog replied. I trialled it, with a chin strap due to me needing full face masks, and compared to other nasal cushion masks I found it extremely comfortable. If I could just train myself to nose-breathe since my surgery, it would be my No 1 for daily use. We've sold quite a number of them and had good feedback. Thanks for the info, might ring respironics and see if I can wheedle a go-life mask out of them, as I am not due for a change until next March :-(
By the way Kath the pipe cover is brilliant, I have had a few issues with the comfort gel nasal mask since they redesigned the exhaust port on it when they introduced the slimline connection with the small white port. As the pipe runs up towards the bedhead this means that air is blown downwards under the covers (VERY ANNOYING!!!) Now I can run the pipe downwards under the covers and exhaust goes up and away, it's all nice and soft - lovely :-)

Glad you like the hose cover. They're great for different reasons - prevent rainout, nicer feel than plastic if the tube touches the skin, and look less clinical in the bedroom :)
It would be good if the GoLife works for you, as I'm a big believer in using different types of masks if possible (although often the NHS can't give out more than one). If you can alternate them then the same facial areas aren't being put under constant pressure.

Forgot to ask you Kath, what surgery did you have?
I had septoplasty and trimming of turbinates before specialist would consider cpap! ouch!! wouldn't want to go through that again, the splints they used must have caused me brain damage, they were that long! lol

SNAP!! I wouldn't go through it again either - or certain not with the splints/packing - that was the worst bit :( However, the good news is I can now breathe through my nose, and as I said on here the other day, my hypopnoeas have gone down too. Plus it's far more comfortable being able to nasal breathe through the mask. I just have to re-train myself no to mouth-breathe though, as it's been a lifetime habit since childhood. This is why I'm still using full face masks.

My surgery was basically a waste of time as he improved one nostril, but the better one became worse, so all that happened was that function was swapped from one side to other, all that pain for nothing!
I also use nasal spray every night, just 1 squirt and although the chemist and the label say it shouldn't be used long term, my consultant says it is ok as long as I watch for traces of blood as it thins the membranes. been doing this for 5 years now, so it seems to be alright.

That's a shame to hear Derek. Did he do the turbinates via laser? Mine were done via laser the first time, which failed, but the 2nd time via normal surgery I got sorted. I don't need the sprays any longer, and the only thing I use now is the Breathe Right Strips.

Mine was normal surgery, lots of blood, packing and splints wuk!
The only good thing about was the time off work I got.

I've now used the GoLife mask for a couple of nights.
It feels comfortable and secure and the leak rate is low when I'm sleeping supine, but the pillows tended to creep out when I turned onto my side. Maybe this was because I didn't have it tight enough.
Definitely a mask to keep.

A good tip for when using nasal pillow masks is, at the point of inserting into the nostrils, do an almighty sniff - works a treat with all the ones I've tried.

Have rung Respironics trying to persuade them to suppy a go fit mask, reponse was they will have to contact trust to see if they are willing to pay for it, hope so! life could be much more comfortable with one of these.
