Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi guys !

My name is Arun

I recently bought a Hybrid CPAP mask, but am not too happy with it. I have the usual problems of air leakage and squeaking noises. I read somewhere that a Nasal mask is a lot better and is leak proof. I have been looking at two, the F&P Eson and the F&P Acclaim.

Does any member know these, or have used them ? Kindly respond.

Many thanks !

I just wish there was one-mask-suits-all out there.  I love the Hybrid and so do lots of others, but it's what works for each person that's important, regardless of who manufactures it.  Hopefully, someone will come along with some help regarding the Eson and Acclaim.  Actually, Symmit did do a full review of the Eson on another post http://hope2sleepguide.co.uk/forum/topics/fisher-and-paykel-eson-ma...

There was also another comment the other day from Wanda in the US, and I quote "The mask is extremely comfortable.  My RT at the DME company wears it too and he loves it.  My RT says he has not had a single complaint from any of his patients that are using the mask.  I have absolutely no nose problems with the mask.  I am still using it and occasionally alternating a nasal pillows mask.  I did note that I do not quite get as low nightly AHI reading with the Eson as I did with the True Blue.  I would get 1.9 frequently with the True Blue but that has only happened once with the Eson.  But I think it is a good trade off since I do not have to wear a nasal pad with the Eson."

Do bear in mind like I said earlier though that what works for one person doesn't always work for another and if you switch to a nasal mask and you're a mouth breather you will need a chin strap too.  Have you rang your clinic to see if they stock these F & P masks?

I would give your clinic a ring first to see if they have one for you to try.  I spent such a lot of money myself on a mission to find the 'right' mask and wasted so much money, along with gaining a collection of masks which were no good for me.

Interesting experience last night Arun with my Hybrid....... The mask was very noisy and difficult to quieten, so before I ditched it and swapped to my FitLife or Fisher & Paykel 431 (I alternate between 2 or 3) I tried tightening the top head band.  Lo and behold everything was quiet So often, with all masks, we tend to keep the same strap settings, forgetting that gradually as they start to 'give' with wear they will need adjusting.

Another thing I meant to say in my email is that people often forget that we have 2 different height settings for the nasal pillows, so it's worth experimenting with this too.  If you can get the Hybrid back working for you how it did in the beginning when you bought it then that would be great, as even if you do get the Eson I'm a big believer in alternating between at least 2 different types of mask if possible, so that the same areas of the face aren't undo constant pressure.

Hi Arun,  if your mask is uncomfortable then itis either the wrong mask for you or too tight.  I lead the fisher and paykel business in the UK so if you would like explore the eson option then drop me a note at Deborah.wainwright@fphcare.co.uk and I can get something sorted for you..  Debi
