Paediatric masks
They don't have much in the line of paediatric masks at the children's hospital and we have the ones he used in intensive care, but they just don't fit correctly. They r ok while he was ill and laid still but I'm struggling really, we have numerous masks but they are all adult apart from one nasal one that's no good anymore as he's on full face. The home vent nurse said that they just don't make full face for kids so we have to improvise but I'm not really that good with this kind of thing. Every mask we have is the masks they use in critical care. Now like I said earlier, that's fine when the kids are ill but Emil twists about a lot and like to lay on his front. Anyone any suggestions? He has the Fit Life at the minute and one I don't know the make of. I'll post a picture.

Hans Rudolph make a paediatric full face mask Rachel. Might be worth you asking your hospital if they can get hold of one for you.

You can buy one at www.eu-pap.co.uk, but I would try getting the hospital to get you one first as there's no guarantee of it fitting or suiting and is a lot of money to waste. That's the trouble with buying masks online which you haven't been able to try first. We are lucky here as our hospital gets in every mask they possibly can.

What's wrong with the Fit Life Rachel, as I thought Emil was doing well on that one?

He is but he vomited in it the other night and couldn't tolerate the nasal, I had to have a bad night as nothing else would fit and after washing I needed the fit life to dry, this has happened a few times!

As you know, I'm a user of the Fit Life, and if that's working for Emil then it might be worth getting a spare one of those. This is only my theory, but my guess is the Fit Life would be more beneficial on a growing face as it only touches the outer edge of the face. There's some talk of the masks affecting children's faces when the bones are still growing. Having said this, preventing apnoeas is more important!
