Problems with mask fit
Hi there my mum has been using her Cpap for nearly two weeks now. Most nights there isn't any problems, but sometimes if she changes position ever so slightly the mask is leaking and the little valve thingy on the elbow joint comes ope, resulting in a lot of noise. Could it be she needs a larger mask?

Hi Michele. It's not necessarily the size of the mask that's the problem, but it could be the type of pillow she's sleeping on that's causing her to nudge the mask and dislodge the valve area. Often a firm thick pillow is responsible for this. Some people prefer a very soft pillow, but of course if she needs neck support then that's not too good. She could also try sleeping on the edge of her pillow. There are special pillows with cut outs, but they're expensive with only limited success. I've tried 5 different ones myself and we did start to sell them about 5 years ago, but positive reviews were low so we stopped.
She may also benefit from a Hose Lift, which keeps the tube away and can stop the hose dragging on the mask.

One thing I found is narrow cushions/pillows that Ikea sell.
They are narrow and fit well on the head so that she can have it in such a way that even if she turns it will not nudge the mask the same. Although they are about a meter long and about 15cm wide they are only a £1 or so and worth a try at that price. If they do not work for her then there is not a lot of cost involved.
I use it on top of my own pillow and place it so if I turn sideways it does not knock anything.
