Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Dear Folks

My Resmed S9 CPAP machine which I have had for upwards of 7 years has suddenly started to display an error message about the motor life being exceeded.

Does this mean it is time for a new machine?

Regards

Hi Iain

Resmed are the only manufacturer that schedule that message to pop up after the machine has been used for a certain amount of time (20,000 hours I think) in the hope a new one will be given or bought. You can mention it to the clinic at your next review but if the machine is still treating you well it's unlikely they'll exchange it, but no harm in asking.

Thanks for the helpful reply. Scanning other OSA forums the general opinion seems to be the same. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Also the latest ResMed Airsense 11 machine (which is probably what I will get from my sleep clinic) seems to be having a bad press?

Agree Ian, as I think delaying a change of machine is wise at the moment too if it "ain't broke". A lot of clinics are having to accept 'card to cloud' Resmed AirSense machines at the moment due to the shortage of chips, which means the telemonitoring system a lot of clinics are now using won't work, and they can only see the data from the physical SD card. The AirSense 11 isn't available yet in the UK, so hopefully any issues you're reading about will have been ironed out by the time it is.

I must admit I can't remember the last time I had a review or when the sleep clinic looked at the data on the SD card. I have seen a site called the SleepHQ (Aussie?) https://www.sleephq.com/ where you can upload your data?

That's a shame to hear Iain and hopefully things are improving now more clinics are seeing the benefit of using telemonitoring. Yes, I know Sleep HQ and also Oscar to see your data, but it won't work on the S9 Escape if you have that one, as there's no efficacy data stored on that machine.

I collected my new machine today, a Resmed Airsense 10 and I have setup an account at their web site so I can see the data from my sleep sessions. The new machine is very dinky and "senses" when I put on the mask or take it off. I was sad to say goodbye to my faithful old S9 as I had gotten rather attached to it over the years - literally when I was asleep!

Great news Ian and it sounds like you've not been given the 'card-to-cloud' AirSense 10 with you being able to see your data. Your S9 has served you well, so now time to friend your new machine which will continue to look after you well :-)
