Respironics Wisp Review
Philips Respironics Wisp review.
The wisp is described as being a mix of pillows and nasal mask. First impressions are excellent, arriving in good packaging with three sizes of mask included, and very smooth cloth covered headgear, and a quick release short springy hose.
Fitting is easy, find which nosepiece fits best, fit into the headgear, pull over your head and adjust, those with larger heads may find the headgear a little small though, for me it was near the end of its adjustment. The mask sits on the end of the nose, so the usual points of irritation of the bridge of the nose are avoided. For me as well this mask leaves no facial marks.
Turn on the airflow and the seal is very good with only light contact required, stability is excellent, the mask stays in place all night and does not slide or ride up. Venting is quiet and at a good angle from the elbow making it partner friendly.
There is no forehead piece on this system, so you can put your glasses back on and read or watch TV. It is very lightweight, and has a small profile, making this as unobtrusive as many pillows masks but feel as secure as a nasal mask. If you need to get out of bed the hose clips off and on with a little squeeze of two tabs, and reattaches with a light push.
Cleaning is quite easy, the mask disassembles quickly and the cushion is a one piece item.
Compared to the F&P Eson this is a smaller and lighter mask which will suit those that like to wear glasses in bed very well. Compared to a pillows interface like the Resmed Swift FX it is easier to fit and puts less pressure on the nose and leaves less facial marking.
So to conclude this is a great product with a wide fitting range and comfortable and lightweight, definitely worth a try if you want a light and unobtrusive nasal mask, or one to alternate with others to have different contact points on the face.

Thanks for the review Symmit. I would have put one myself, but it might look like a biased one with us selling it. I can't use nasal masks on a permanent basis, but when I trialled it (with a chin strap) I was very impressed, and see it as a real welcome for both people who get nasal bridge sores and also for people who want to have less mask on their face (especially if they have claustrophobia) as I could hardly tell I had a mask on - in fact I was more aware of the chin strap than the mask. I also worked hard to cause some leaks and found this very difficult, which is always a good sign!
