Throwing up or Acid Reflux with sleep apnea
So, I'm wondering if anyone suffered from acid reflux or threw up alot before being put on CPAP? My Andrew who is on CPAP threw up almost nightly before he started CPAP, it got so bad for him that he would be sitting on the floor playing or eating dinner( because it always happend at night) and he wouldn't say anything to us, he would just get up run to the bathroom throw up and come right back to what he was doing even if it was eating. He got to where he did it like it was a normal thing for a 2year old to do and he did this till he was CPAPed which he is 4 now. I hated it and felt so sorry for him but from night 1 with his CPAP he hasn't thrown up since. The doctors said this had to be acid reflux but I don't know I just know it had to come from the sleep apnea and the funny thing was, only at night he never threw up during the day???????

Acid reflux is very common with OSA. When your airway is blocked your lungs continue to try and pump oxygen in creating a negative pressure. This pressure is also blocked by apnea. The pressure forces your esophagus open and sucks up stomach acid. The negative pressure phenomenon is the cause of many OSA symptoms such as your night time bathroom trips, and sweating.

That was the explaination we have received also . Both my boths have upper airway collapse with their floppy larynx and this causes the same negative pressure causing reflux,
I am glad that since starting Cpap that Andrew has some relief bless him that it became normality for him
Does he have a throat clearing cough during the day ? Did he get medication for the reflux
