Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

For the last few months I have had tinnitus mainly in my left ear

I think that using my APAP is making it worse although its difficult to tell as the tinnitus changes from day to day.

Does anybody have this problem

I am thinking about changing my mask as the top straps on the  Quatro FX, which I use most of the time, does put pressure above my ears.

Sorry to read this Edam - it must be so frustrating for you to deal with tinnitus with CPAP.  I've certainly heard of some people say their tinnitus can get worse, but there again some say it improves.  Using nasal pillows can aggravate this, but I see you're using a full face mask so that's not your issue.

The FX straps do tend to go closer to the ear, so it might be worth seeing if your clinic can find you an alternative mask, but this will probably mean going back to one with a forehead support.

Let us know how it goes Edam and good luck in improving both issues.

At least I wont need a sound machine

As for the mask the FX is the only one they supply and that is a improvement as in the past they did not supply any full face masks.

I have been using the F & P Simplus for the last few months and it has not helped my Tinnitus but it is the best mask I have ever used .Its better than my old favourite the ZZZ mask.

Im waiting for the results of my MRI  scan to see if there is any reason for my Tinnitus

I've been hearing good reports about the Simplus, but not had chance to try one yet, but I will.  Full face masks are in short supply so we need to know about the good ones.  I'm still using the FitLife and Hybrid, but am always keen to try new ones that come along.

The Simplus is a full face mask ,not a total facemask like the Fitlife, and its the most comfortable mask I have used. The cushion design is very clever and gives a very good seal round the nose. I have had problems with the headgear delaminating but so far the replacement is ok

My stats last night were AHI 0 and leak 1 l/min. The leak figure is misleading as the Simplus has a lower exhaust rate than Resmed masks but its still very good.

The MRI scan did not find any problems. For most other health problems this should be good news but it now means that im stuck with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis for life.

I'll certainly be trying the Simplus soon thanks and Edam those are great results from your therapy.  Shame about the ear problems though, and there's been very few studies done on this so far.  Joe Barnes, one of our members, has a lot of problems though and has had some procedures done, so if you 'friend' him on the forum I'm certain he'd be happy to speak with you via the messaging system on the forum.  Here's one of the discussions he's had in the past on there http://hope2sleepguide.co.uk/forum/topics/sleep-nasendoscopy

"Just to tidy this up, I finally had an in-person review by my sleep clinic yesterday, who agreed the ResMed AirSense 10 was "wheezy" and replaced the machine."

1st time and I’ve failed the mask leak test

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More

"Nope, I just accept that some people's throats tend to close when they sleep, due to a loss of muscle tone during deeper sleep.  Back when I was diagnosed, the sleep lab just filmed you whilst you slept, stuck an O2 meter on your finger,…"
