Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Travelling on US airline for fly drive Route 66 holiday June 2013.

My son Graeme aged 35 yr, my sister Yvonne and I are booked to take Route 66 trip on 4th June 2013.   We can all drive so we will all be driving the hire car to the various accommodations which have all been pre booked.  Apparently US airlines consider CPAP baggage as additional hand luggage and they consider it medical so I will be able to carry 2 bags on board, I will get a travel letter from  BCH nearer the travel time.  I am looking forward to this trip so I have purchased a lighter travel CPAP it is ProBasics ZZZ Pap with integrated heated humidifier to take with me.  I already have a portable hose lift, comfort straps and hose cover which I got from Hope 2 Sleep where Kath has been extremely helpful.  I have also got another medical label and pen from Kath to make it easier at airport.

A few years ago Graeme and I done a fantastic American Grand tours fly drive from Denver and enjoyed driving through national parks on our way and for this trip it was cheaper to pay annual fee to get into the parks.  I still have the manual of this holiday and it was great to have all hotels pre booked and help with places to visit.  We done a loop from Denver and then back to Denver for the flight home and this was super but I did not have sleep apnea at that time so did not have to consider CPAP then.

For a few years now I have been taking my house CPAP on package holidays to Turkey for sunbathing and even with my medical letter from BCH they only allow 1 bag on board as hand luggage.  My handbag has to be emptied and carried in the hold case and I virtually have no hand luggage other than my CPAP.   This is unfair as I need to use the CPAP at night but that is the rule.
