Very interesting and frightening information you have posted Peter. However, we on here are all sleep apnoea sufferers which is different from being sleepy through being forced to work too many long hours. Having said that, if an undiagnosed and untreated person of sleep apnoea were forced to work long hours, this would obviously make their sleepiness even greater. We are all on the same mission, however - you who is, thankfully, highlighting the danger or driving when tired, and us who try to bring awareness to people with undiagnosed sleep apnoea and still driving on ours roads. I wish you well with your own campaign.
It all starts with the law.
Type Ross v stobart into google and read how it all starts.
The situation is this.
Truck drivers work up to 81 hours per week.
They use a fiddle called a period of availability.
Its listed in the road transport regulations ( working time)
The UK transport sector is operating illegally, the HGV drivers are in a state of fatigue.
The employer relies on the driver working 5 or 6 shifts.
First 3 days driver can work 15 hours a day.
Followed by 4 days at 13 hours.
They do this all the time.
The driver fiddles by recording breaks and
POA.
Its a scam, and its going on.
That's why drivers get tired.
Wouldn't you get tired to.
Problem is you guys and gals went bothered till it happened to you or somebody you knew
There should be an investigation but there isn't.
Somebody dies and the truckdriver goes to jail for 5.years that's it.
