Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

I am considering asking my GP to refer me to another hospital for the supply and monitoring of CPAP .

Would I just be supplied another CPAP and mask by the new hospital or would a new sleep test have to be done. As my original diagnosis was made several years ago I have no record of the original sleep test.

Also if another sleep test is required would I have to spend a few nights without CPAP to get a accurate reading bearing in mind that my AHI is mostly under 1 on my present APAP.

It will depend on the Sleep Clinic or hospital, however, if you AHI is 1 why do you want to change?

You might be allowed just to keep what you have already and the equipment transferred to the new Sleep Clinic.

As your AHI is so low I very much doubt they will do another Sleep Study, unless they think you can now do without CPAP, but this is unlikely as it is the machine that is giving you such a low AHI in the first place.

Your best option is to ask the Sleep Clinic if you can go to the other hospital.

I want to change because the other hospital, which is in a different trust, supplies a different make of mask.

My present hospital only supplies one make of mask which is unsuitable for my nasal problems.

Over the years I have spent hundreds of pounds buying my own masks and im I fed up forking out my cash when hospitals should supply suitable equipment

Ok, that makes a difference, you might find one hospital uses ResMed and the other Philips.

Some do keep a better stock of masks than others though.

Im also thinking that a change to a Philips machine may help my present problems . Another local hospital uses Philips so may see if I can get referred there

Hi Edam,

How did you get on ?

I'm interested because I'm also hoping to be referred to another Sleep Clinic / Hospital.

Pressure waking me up. Belching and wind

HiI'm using the prisma smart max machine. Initially I was just on a nasal mask, this changed as I was sleeping with my mouth open. I then went to face and nose mask and complained of bad wind and belching. Sometimes the pressure in the night was…See More
