Repeated air blowing out of mouth
Hi everyone, I have been on apap for 13 years now and thought I had experienced everything until recently. I normally use a nasal mask, my favourite is a Resprionics Comfort (not blue gel) which is a discontinued product. I was put on a course of antibiotics for a UTI and 4 days in I started expelling air through my tightly closed mouth, every couple of minutes it forced my lips to open and close. This happened early morning and there was no more sleep that night even sitting up with mask on. I saw GP next day who decided it was a reaction to the antibiotics and said to stop course after confirming I was infection free. However, I am still getting this air expelling from my mouth most nights although less frequent until last night. The very first time this happened I was aware that the pressure increased to 12 from my normal of 7.5, so I switched to my back up machine and exactly the same increase occured. I tried to rationalise this to throat closure or nasal congestion, both side effects of the ab. I do need to get this under control otherwise I have to sit up without the machine and try to sleep hopefully without incident. Of course with the pressure rises I also get air escaping from the mask. Has anyone any thoughts on this? Eric

Eric, just in case, check the mask's exhale valve hasn't got stuck in an either closed or open position. Also check your hose at both ends to see if when it twists there's a blockage. Check there's no holes in it too. If it's any if these things it could be limiting airflow through the nose causing a buildup of air that needs to expel through the mouth.

Thank you Kath, only just home and will do all the things you suggested well before bedtime. What you mentioned is so simple and easy, I have plenty of supplies so can replace if checks don't reveal anything and see if there is a difference. Many thanks and sorry about the delay in replying. Eric
