Hi guys.
started CPAP 1 month ago. My AHI was 44. I have been given a dream station. Mask is ok, pressure ok. My AHI is now around 0.5 to 1. No leak. Sleeping long periods of time and waking up 1-2 times a night ( I think this is habit). However I feel so so tired still. When will I feel better? Thought it would be an over night thing.
thanks guys.

Hi Holly
It's great that your treatment is proving to be working with such a low AHI from such a high one, and also that you're sleeping long periods with the CPAP, which your body will be thanking you for after years of pressure on your heart and low oxygen. With many of us who have lived with undiagnosed/untreated sleep apnoea for so long it's a gradual process before you reap the full benefits of 'feeling' better as lots of healing needs to take place (which is happening everytime you sleep now), and whilst we can never pay back all the sleep debt lost to sleep apnoea, there is a level of this pay back that does also need to take place.
My advice would be to not sleep without your CPAP for any naps you need, as some of the good work sleeping during the night will be undone, as you'll be experiencing apnoeas, low oxygen and the same pressure on your heart and other organs.
We usually say that 6 months is a good marker to see how you're feeling compared to when you first went on CPAP, and if you still feel no better then it's time to investigate other causes, such as blood tests for B12, Vitamin D, thyroid and diabetes which are all linked with sleep apnoea and can also cause daytime tiredness.
