Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi.
I'm finding the Airsense 10 the hospital gave me, the humidifier chamber runs dry. It's not even on max settings, which I'm guessing would empty it a lot quicker. Seems like a big design oversight to me. Does anyone else have this trouble? The water supply in the Sleepcube they gave me before would last all night easily, but they don't use them any more.

I previously had a DeVilbiss Sleepcube and the dehumidifier did sometimes run dry.  On the other hand I now have an AirSense 10 and it never runs dry, and I've had the humidity turned up high.

Wow it's the other way round for me.
I found with the Sleepcube I'd often have a good bit of water still there in the morning.
Today I woke up with a dry tank on the Resmed again, feels horrible, and it's only on 6 humidity and 11 pressure.
I asked the hospital, they don't have Sleepcubes any more.

I had a look round for people modifying the tanks and some create DIY solutions, and I think someone 3D printed a bigger one.

Anyway I emailed Resmed and said nice kit, but can you make a bigger tank?

Do you fill it over the max level line?

I did replace the tank in my SleepCube, and had to regularly take the silicone sealing gasket out and give it a goof clean, but not infrequently found it standing in a pool of water in the morning.  The machine sat on a tray because of this.

The ResMed tank is a lot smaller (and doesn't yet leak!) and I have the machine humidity set around 5, but I've found if it's any higher I get rain-out in the mask.  May be the ResMed adjusts for the room temperature - at the moment the bedroom is around 17C at night time (and I still wake up overheated under a 4.5 tog duvet - that's just me).  There's always water left in the tank in the morning.

Did you try a sleeve for the tube, Jonathan? For rain out? I got one off ebay for a few quid and I think it helps. It's a fleece sleeve  you zip over the main tube.

Yes, I bought some fleecy material and made my own "snuggle hose" 10+ years ago.

Oh cool. Did you do any other DIY mods?

I made a clamped strap to go on the headboard and lift the tube. Just a spare c-clamp with a bit of nylon strap and a clip but works well.

Neat clip for your hose!

I used to use the Respironics Comfort Curve one of the best masks ever, now discontinued of course.  With its stethoscope-style tubing, I had to make my own fleecy cover.

Come to think of it you could likely double up a hose cozy, one over another.

This is a piece of N95 face mask I used for high grade filtration. I just put it where the filter usually goes.
This is around 6 months dirt I would say, thereabouts. I used two for a double layer.

How did you fasten it?

I suppose you could do it with tape or elastic bands. Cut up an old fleece jacket, wrap it round the tube, strap it up, bit of velcro. That sort of thing. I hadn't really thought of that.

Dab hand with a sewing machine :)  The "stethoscope" pipes were detachable with a bit of careful persuasion.
