Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi

Jaydon has used his headgear for 6 weeks we rotate with the softcap however his headgear velcro has started to turn up and is catching on his bedding

How long does headgear last generally ?

I wash it once a week and let it air dry the only thing I can think of is the general temperature of the house or he is moving his head alot

Should I sew velcro in place of the current ones or ask for new headgear

Thanks

Washing can wear the velcro.
Personally I always recommend washing by hand, even if the packaging says it's machine-washable.
Pat it with a towel to remove as much moisture as possible, then air-dry as you have done.
Never put it in the tumble dryer.

What make of headgear is it?

Look at the free ends of the velcro tabs. You'll probably find the tips do not have hooks or eyes - no velcro - for ease of getting a fingernail under them to make adjustments. These tips begin the curling, then the first row of hooks or eyes -and the next and so on. Not the fault of washing or wearer but of penny-pinching design - the tabs are not robust enough to resist this curling, caused by wearing the headgear.

I've used self-adhesive velcro very successfully to make repairs. Chop off the old and stick on new (longer) ones. Make sure you put the new on the right way round - to resist pulling.

Is there another headgear that will fit the mask. I dumped Quattro FX headgear as hopeless and use Quattro a size smaller, for instance.

I've heard this a lot TF about the Quattro FX headgear

Another tip I got was to make sure the velcro is fastened to another piece of velcro when being washed.  This certainly helped mine last longer!  The Respironics' + Fisher & Paykel seems to last much longer than some.  So does my Hybrid.

I hand wash the headgear in lukewarm water and air dry ...its a paeds resmed comfort blue with Premium Headgear with EZ Peel Tabs will repair it as a spare

thanks

CPAP Total Face Mask

I was curious whether anyone has used the CPAP Total Face Masks and could pass on their observations? I've been using an Airfit F20 for years which is fine apart from the permanent red mark on the bridge of my nose, and have recently tried the…See More

Pressure waking me up. Belching and wind

HiI'm using the prisma smart max machine. Initially I was just on a nasal mask, this changed as I was sleeping with my mouth open. I then went to face and nose mask and complained of bad wind and belching. Sometimes the pressure in the night was…See More
