Does anybody have experience of taking their CPAP on Thomas Cook flights

We have booked a holiday with Thomas Cook and flying in one of their planes, Does anybody have experience of taking their machine as extra hand baggage.

I spoke to someone in customer service and she hadn't a clue about what I was talking about. Gave me another number to ring that turned out to be unobtainable

This doesn't sound good David

I've just dug up a few past comments on the forum about Thomas Cook + here they are:-

Just remembered a 'phone call I got a few months back about someone who was travelling with Thomas Cook and had rang them for advice...... They were told they had to have a medical tag attached to the CPAP bag and also a medical equipment sticker.  The lady asked me where she could get them from, and bearing in mind I'm not aware of such a thing I told her to photocopy the CPAP Luggage Tag she was purchasing from us and stick it on her bag.  These airlines and holiday companies need to have proper rules, and just like the DVLA, it all depends on who they speak to.  (This was from this discussion http://hope2sleepguide.co.uk/forum/topics/ryanair-and-c-pap)

Just a little update from Thomas Cook confirming they do accept CPAP as extra hand luggage http://customer-community.thomascook.com/thomascook/topics/cpap_as_...

The number to ring is 01274 384 767 for them to take a few details from you.  Hopefully the confusion will soon be sorted with all the airlines.

My husband still has his NHS bulky CPAP. We have just booked a holiday with Thomas Cook so thanks Kath for this Update. We have been told by Thomas Cook that if my husband shows his GP letter re sleep apnoea he will be able to take his CPAP plus extra hand luggage. The million dollar question now is -as Tiger Fan mentions - will the airport staff at Glasgow and at our foreign holiday airport also agree to this???

I got this reply from customer services last night ,

Please be advised that the CPAP machine can be carried as your hand luggage as long as it weighs within 5 Kgs.

The size of the item should not exceed the following dimensions 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.

This cannot be combined together with any hold baggage and each person is allowed only 1 item as hand luggage.

Kindly note that for additional medical luggage allowance, you need to contact our Special Assistance Team on 0800 1073 409.

They are open from 8 am to 10 pm every day, but please note that they are very busy during the day so if you could call in after 5.30 pm, you will get through a lot easier.

not rang them yet but will update forum with result when I do.

Quote from above...."This cannot be combined together with any hold baggage and each person is allowed only 1 item as hand luggage." I can't see why this rule applies.  Why can't it be combined with other baggage as long as it's within the weight + dimensions restrictions?  The mind boggles

Look forward to your update David with interest.

Update, I have spoken to the Special Assistance Team at Thomas Cooks very helpful and no problem adding an additional 5Kg onto my allowance for hand baggage for my CPAP. Suggested I get a letter form the clinic or GP as well to take. For anybody else requiring assistance with their machine from Thomas Cooks ring 01274 384767 .

Kath could I dare suggest that a sticky is started with contact numbers for airlines etc if you have time to help others.

Great to hear, and seems Thomas Cook have improved their services for CPAPers

Good guess David - time is never on my side, but rest assured it's on my very long 'to do' list.
