Happy New Year to You Kath and everyone here on the forum.

Sorry I haven't been on here much but I do have some amazing news to share with you ::::::drum roll::::::::

I NO LONGER HAVE SLEEP APNOEA!!!!!!!! I recently had another sleep study done and it revealed that I have gone from 35+ apnoeas an hour (when first diagnosed) to under 7 an hour. The hospital I attend does not treat anyone with less than 10 apnoea's an hour and they have sent me and my GP a letter stating that  I have 'resolved my obstructive sleep apnoea with weight loss' and there need no further treatment and can cease wearing my cpap machine!!!!!!!

As some of you may already know, I have lost almost 10 stone in weight (with Slimming World)over the last 3 years and it has honestly been the best thing I could ever have done especially for my general health & well being ----- not having to wear my cpap is the best thing ever ( even after 4+ years I never really grew to love it even though I knew my life depended on it) and is a HUGE bonus to the weight loss!!!

It feels very new and a little odd at the moment not having sleep apnoea but Im feeling great physically and not missing it at all and at the moment show no signs of tiredness etc. so long may it last.

I know weight loss might not be the answer to everyones problem and I know how hard it can be to lose weight especially when you are so fatigued and worn out (especially when you crave sugar etc just to give you a little bit of energy to get through the day) BUT it really does help even if it doesn't cure everyones sleep apnoea! Less weight equals less stress and strain on our already tired bodies so anything we can try has to be worth a go I'm sure you will agree?

I hope you don't mind me sharing this news with you all here and if my success can encourage or motivate even just one person to lose a few pounds then I will be even happier...... there is hope!!!!!!!!

Wishing you all the very best of health and happiness in 2012

This is FANTASTIC NEWS Suzie and am so pleased for you.  You are one of only a few people I've heard of who have managed to come off CPAP through weight reduction alone.  Interestingly, our clinic treats people for an AHI of 5 and above.  However, I daresay that you could work to get those few remaining apnoeas away by not eating or drinking within at least 3 hours of bedtime and sleeping on your side, amongst other things.

At least you know the signs to look for in the future, and we'll miss you on the forum, so hope you'll still drop in from time to time to let us know how you're doing and encourage others.

VERY WELL DONE and a great boost for the New Year :)

Kath, Happy New Year to you and your family, just wanted to let you know it is 40c in Melboune today and will be a low of 25c tonight. I hate this hot weather.

Terry, would it help if we did a house swap for a month?  I would certainly be happy to try out your sunny country :D  Joking apart, hope wearing the mask isn't too uncomfortable when it's so hot.

Bless you, Kath!

Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year yourself.

If any members have friends, relatives or acquaintances who are concerned about their 'daytime tiredness', can I kindly ask that you refer them to www.truckershealth.org.uk, where they can find a self-help webpage for express treatment for their sleep apnoea.

This website is not yet linked to a search-engine, but I am surprised at the number of medics who have viewed it already. Of course, the page is targetted at commercial-drivers.

Happy 2012 to everyone.

Richard
