Wow, that's interesting Rachel. Sounds like the machine has the ability to show you basic results without the software. Did it say HI or AHI? My guess is that there's a way to see these results in the machine's display without having to switch it on and off. It might not say in the manual, as it's the clinician's manual you'd need.
I can press some buttons and wen I do I cam see AI 00HI 05 SI 00 then the ramp time and pressure the main pressure turn alarm on n off the mode andCompliance meter

I'm not an expert, but it sounds to me like it's splitting the AHI up, which is good. Assuming I'm correct, it means AI (Apnoea Index per hour) is Zero (fantastic) and the HI (Hypopnoea Index per hour) is 5.

The HI says 10 this morning, is it something I should be worried about and calling his home ventilation nurse or not?

Hi Rachel. Now where's Rock when you need him?? Just seen your post. It doesn't sound right to me - more like a blip on the machine. However, I wouldn't hesitate in contacting the nurse and tell her what you've seen on the machine, as she's the best one to help. Let us know how you get on.
What machine are you using? I would not put too much stock in these numbers as some changes were recently made along with a new mask. Once I know what machine you are using I can reference my manuals.
Is he still having the same symptoms as the other day?

Is it a Resmed?
I have found that the auto units will count just about anything as a hypopnea. We did an in lab experiment with all of the machines a few years back. We all took turns wearing the machines in auto mode while we were awake. After about an hour most of the machines were at high pressures. They were counting swallowing, breath pauses, and talking as events. The Resmed algorithm seemed to have the most problems with this. Many people with Resmeds say to ignore the HI as long as the AI is below 5.
I will see if I can scrounge up a manual fro that particular machine.
