Respironics PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP Machine Software?

Dear Kath & Terry thks for previous help have ended up buying above machine. Have been using it for just over a week now. Am now wanting to obtain software for it. Seems very expensive c/w resmed software though unfortunately. Do you need to buy software & sd card reader or can sd card be put directly into computer port and read by phillips software? Thanks all for any comments/advice------------

Nice machine you have there Marg - I use that one.  You don't need the card reader if you've got a port on your computer.  For the official Philips Respironics software, it can be bought on the website.... Encore Software.  However, the free open-source SleepyHead Software can be used which we've talked about before on here.  See This Post.

Hi Kath!

Im so much deperate about choosing one of the two devices for my Dad:

Respironics PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP or

ResMed S9 Auto

They both have heated humidifier, but I am not really sure which one is better technologically.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance,

Ilia

Hi Ilia and welcome to our forum :)  Regarding your question, and do bear in mind it's my personal preference, but I love my Respironics System One which is why I chose it.  I also love the way that Respironics encourage their users to find out good detailed information about their sleep from their machines, which we absolutely have a right to be able to do, seeing as it's our bodies!  I did trial the other machines before I got my System One, and I also appeared to get better results with it.  However, lots of people use the S9 here with good results too and they are both very good machines - as is the Fisher Paykel Icon, but it's not easy to get the readings from that one as they're not available yet on the SleepyHead Software programme.

Where you are in the US, you can also get the heated tubes like you can for the Resmed S9, but I manage fine without them.  Here in the UK the Respironics will be releasing their heated tube system soon, but I won't be getting it as I don't need it.  Unless you have particular problems with humidity, causing 'rainout' then your Dad may not need this either.  I have several customers who have the Resmed S9, but prefer it without the heated tube.

Hope this helps, and if cost has a bearing in the different machines, then you can't really go wrong with either!

Ilia, I use the Resmed S9 Auto and find it good, I haven't tried the Respironics so can't compare. To be honest the machines are not the most important part as they basically all blow air. Try to get a machine that makes the least amount of noise (most are quiet) and one with not to many lights. The most important part is the mask and takes a bit of getting used to and he may need to change masks a number of times before settling on the right one. Let us know which machine he ends up with and mask and we can give some more tips. Quite often you don't get a lot of info from the suppliers, he will learn more on here and it makes the treatment a bit more easier to deal with. Personally I think 90% comes down to attitude towards treatment, the machine and mask are a small percentage, good luck.

try for 24 dB or less, you can further reduce noise by adding an in-line filter

Hi Ilia,

They are both good machines. I have both and prefer the ResMed S9 Auto. It works more effectively for me and seems slightly quieter. it's also easier to travel with. But its a matter of personal preference and your father will be fine with either of them. The thing to remember is that, when two options are evenly balanced, it doesn't matter which you choose.

Pete
