Welcome to the Hope2SleepGuide Forum, which is a service run by the Hope2Sleep Charity founded by Kath Hope with a marvellous team of trustees and volunteers.
Kath herself has severe sleep apnoea and hypoventilation/hypercapnia, and has used CPAP for several years and is now on non-invasive ventilation. Our trustees and volunteers are all either sufferers of sleep disordered breathing or clinicians/medics working in this field, and most importantly, we are all passionate in supporting (with empathy) others and raising awareness to help people live healthier and more energised lives.
Whilst we do not give medical advice, more often than not, with support, tips and knowledge, people can overcome any problems experienced with our therapy, and there is a whole page dedicated to this on the website http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/tips-for-problems-sleeping-with-cpap-or...
Please come and join us, and don’t feel obligated to use your ‘real’ name if you prefer to remain anonymous as this is a public forum. Don’t be shy in posting and sharing, as we’re all in this together and to help each other.
Best Wishes for good sleep!

Did you not have a full sleep study originally Dee when you got diagnosed? Good your CSA got picked up though and they're investigating further.
Dee, it's good to here you got somewhere, your figures didn't sound right.
No just a home sleep test with pulse ox on the finger for two night. I mentioned that I forget to breather in the first appointment with Bristol lung Centre and again when I went to the Sleep Unit but no one listened to me. Hopefully when I have a full sleep test they will pick it up any problems that are there.
Dee
Ah, that makes sense then, as they'll have not been able to identify the difference between centrals, obstructives + even hypopnoeas. Good you're having a full sleep study.
I looked at the data from 22 January and I was very surprised that for nearly 3 hours my AHI were 15 that was from 1am - just before 4am and then it slowly dropped into a better level. For that day the average was 6.55 per hour.
Dee
Dee, that's because our REM sleep (where the apnoeas mainly happen) happens in stages throughout the night (explained fully below) so when we're given our AHI it's calculated by how many hours we've slept, but for many of those hours we've actually had no apnoea events.
Every 60-100 minutes we go through a cycle of four stages of sleep
In a full sleep cycle, a person goes through all the stages of sleep from one to four, then back down through stages three and two, before entering dream sleep

Hi
I had a call yesterday from my sleep unit and my full sleep test will be 18 February. I will ask for transport home as it will be easier to get home. In the evening of the 18th I will get the bus there as my partner cant do it. I hate Bristol at the best of times but at night I dont feel safe for some reason. I will take my manual chair as it will be easier for hospital transport to take me home.
The hard bit will be pushing up the hill to get to the back of the BRI. it will be good exercise for me even though it might increase my heart rate and breathing rate higher than it needs to be. I already have a high heart rate which doesnt drop much below the mid 80's at rest but my blood pressure is on the low side most of the time.
I will be joining the gym this week so that I can start getting my weight down. I'm less than I was when I started using the APAP machine but hopefully by 31 December I will be down to 50kgs (7st 12lbs) from 91kgs (14st 4lbs). That works out to be 55% of my body weight.
Dee
Good news Dee about the full sleep study, and well done on the weight loss so far Let us know how the sleep study goes.
last time i weighed myself it was 83.4klg.

Well done on the weight loss Dee and joining the gym, make sure your eating the correct foods and not over eating and drink lots of water as well, hopefully the kilo's will drop off.
I will I need to get everything sorted so that I can keep to a healthy eating plan for next week as I dont have a lot of food in at the moment as I am broke until next Monday when I get my benefit money. I'll speak to my GP about getting some support by getting weighed in each week with the nurse so that I can see what is happening with my weight. I'm feeling quite tired because I had stop using the machine for five days before I have my full sleep test so I thought I would do from Sunday 9 February. Quite a few mornings I have woke up around 4am and cant back to sleep which means I am knackered by midday. Roll on tomorrow when I have my overnight sleep study and then hopefully it will mean I get the correct machine to treat me Sleep Apnoea and start to feel less tired.
Dee
I am not sure how the sleep study went last night because I did struggle to get to sleep, it didnt help that the area wasn't that quiet. You could hear their shoes clicking on the floor. I think I got some sleep but not sure if it will show anything. I left the unit just before 6:45am but couldnt get a bus until 9am so that i could use my bus pass. when i got home i watched telly for a while and then I went up and had a nap as i was falling to sleep. I used my machine for the first time since 9 February and it was nice as I have missed using it. How long is it before they give you an appointment to tell you the results of the test.
