Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Have just completed my latest Blog on getting the right kind of mask, so hope you find it helpful.  With so many types of masks available, it's a difficult and bewildering decision - especially for new people to CPAP therapy. and not helped by the lack of choice at some clinics.

Although we only sell the Respironics masks currently, I have recommended other manufacturers' masks too, as the important aspect is to get the 'right mask for you' irrespective of who makes it!  Here's the link to it:- Blog On Choosing The Right Mask

Hi Kath

I’m wondering if there is anywhere in the uk that makes cpap masks from a 3d printer scan?  I have TMD as well as sleep apnoea & I’m finding it difficult to find the right mask.
Any help would be appreciated.

Fran

Sorry for the delay over the Christmas holidays Fran, but there's no company we're aware of that makes bespoke masks. I'm sure the day will come, but not soon. Which masks have you tried already and what are the problems?

Hi Kath

Thanks got your reply. I’ve tried the the F20 which is a full face mask but I found it quite harsh on the nose & face. I’ve tried mask covers & nasal nasal pads but they seemed cause mask leaks & gave me more apnoeas. The other mask I’ve tried is the F30 which was smaller, my apnoeas went down so it was good until it caused my TMJ disease to start up with a vengeance. I really need a full face mask that is easier in the nose & face.

Hi Fran. It can be hard finding the 'right' mask for us and as a sleep consultant quotes "you have to kiss several frogs until you find your prince" which is so true. I too struggled for a long time when first on CPAP and in those days there weren't the more minimalistic full face masks around like the F30 and the DreamWear (my favourite for me).

It's a shame the F30 caused a flare up of your TMJ as so often we hear the TMJ improves when the sleep apnoea is treated. It can be caused though if you're having to fasten the headgear too tight which will push the jaw backwards out of alignment.

One of the things I'm thinking could help is the Dual Band Chinstrap to help keep your jaw in a better position. Here's a link to it for you to look at https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/dual-band-vertical-lift-anti-snore-and... I'd have also recommended you try the supportive Neck Cushion, but we still have no date when the manufacturer themselves will have them back in stock https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/neck-cushion-for-chin-support-a-soluti...

Hi Kath

Thanks for the message. I’m very interested in the chin cushion & keep looking to see if there is any stock. I will keep looking in on that item. The other strap looks interesting as well so will look into that further.
Regards

1st time and I’ve failed the mask leak test

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More
