Resmed Swift FX nasal pillows My review

I've been using a swift FX for about 3 weeks now, having been a dedicated, almost fanatical Sleepweaver user and tried a few other masks from time to time.

First impressions were great, it's very soft, nothing that contacts your face is hard or sharp and the design means you can put your glasses on afterwards too making it it great for TV watchers.

It adjust very easily, theres a rubbery silicone top strap that has a locking mechanism that is just right, and the back of head strap is the usual stretchy velcro faced material (which has stretched somewhat since new).

The nasal pillows are very soft, this is the only pillow mask I've tried so far and yet I've had no desire to go back to my others. They are double walled and only seal properly when the air is flowing so do final adjustments with the machine on.

I've had a little irritation around the nostrils but this went away after a few nights.

Pressure on my machine (which is an autoset) is usually set to 9 minimum, I've reduced it to 8 using the swift FX and still getting an AHI of around 1.

For the sake of trying it, the seal is stable when the pressure is set at 20 but is progressively less comfortable as the pressure goes up, the anecdotal guideline of pillows being best for people needing lower pressures is probably quite true.

The short extra flexible hose is very good, and keeps itself untangled well.

Overall I'd be happy to recommend this to anyone who uses a pressure of 12 or lower, and suggest they should be tried by anyone who can get access to them. Of course they won't suite everyone but they are definitely the best thing I have for TV watching in bed and are presently joint favourite with the sleepweaver.

I'm a newbie, having been diagnosed two months ago. I too use this mask after first being given a Quattro by my hospital. Before I got my Swift I was close to despair, I hated using the machine and mask and wanted to quit. Luckily, my nurse had one of these spare when I telephoned them.

Since I switched to the Swift almost a month ago, my CPAP experience has changed completely. I settled with it immediately and I've not had a problem with getting to sleep and, more importantly, staying asleep. My AHI has been at or below 1.00 each day and, day by day, I'm getting the fit better so that my leak rate is well within guide lines. I am having a slight problem with a slightly sore nostril. But, I've ordered some cream from this site's shop which hopefully will solve that minor porblem

I recommend this mask.

That's great to hear Elliot - more evidence that the 'right mask for each person' is the most important part of the therapy.  Sometimes it takes many masks until people find the correct one for them.

Excellent AHI readings in these early days too!  (Hope the cream helps your nostrils).

Small addenddum - there is a downside to this mask and it's the venting, it's quiet but it's also quite a strong jet, which exits down and away from the face but if you sleep facing your partner they may not appreciate it too much.
