Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi can anyone give me there opinion on a SleepWeaver mask, I started off by purchasing a ComfortGel Blue mask, and even using mask liners and a hose lift I am getting problems with it moving about when I turn over.

I have had a fair amount of leakage from the mask hence the liners but even when I tighten the straps up it feels so tight on face its leaving marks on face.

Have discussed this with the company that I purchased it from and they are reccomending a sleep weaver mask with a 10 day returns if I cant get on with it.

I am also getting rainout some days even with a hose lift and a hose cover.

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards

Ian

People either love or hate the SleepWeaver Ian, but if you have a guaranteed refund then you've nothing to lose.  If it's the full face Anew version I've only ever heard one positive about that one, but hopefully when they make improvements to it then it should be better.

Hi Ian I have been using the Sleepweaver anew full face mask now for about 6 months and love it. it takes some getting used to and can leak around the nose depending on how you lay. But its so soft round the face comapred to a hard shell mask. It needs washing a couple of times a week but dries in no time.

If like me your machine ramps up at the beginning the hose coupling can be a bit uncomfortable till the pressure gets a bit higher.

I was lucky to win one in a draw from another site. I understand though that if you normally have a large hard shell mask a medium sleepweaver is the one to go for. See their sizing chart.

I will seriously consider getting another one. the only downside is I would have to pay for it as I'm sure the NHS arent supplying them.

That's good to know you found success with it Ian.  The people I know of who didn't get on with it fortunately were supplied with it from their NHS hospital (apart from one lady who managed to sell hers on this forum).  I don't think most NHS hospitals supply them on a regular basis though, and suspect they were samples.

I'm doesnt because they say it leaks to much.

I've used them in the past, but the short life put me off. Good fit is possible but as mentioned by others they need a bit of pressure in them to seal well so using ramp on your machine can be difficult! Give it a try, certainly the best of the nasal masks I've tried for side sleeping.

Well I have decided to stick with the comfort Gel Blue at moment, watched a video on youTube and the guy stated that most mask leaks are caused by improper cleaning, I have cleaned my mask every day using the mask wipes but since I did as the video showed i.e. strip mask down wash with soap and water dry and put back together, I have had no leaks and now getting a full nights sleep.

So the mask wipes are not being used again as clearly they are not doing the job.

Glad to hear you've solved your leaks Ian.  Do you mind telling me which mask wipes you've tried as I know you haven't bought any from us?  The ones we stock are the Beaumont Citrus II Wipes, and I trialled all the brands myself over a period of time before coming to the conclusion these ones were the best out there, hence why we stock them.  In the last 5 years of selling them we've never been told that soap and water work better than ours.  In fact 2 weeks ago I got a call from a customer who was so impressed after buying both the wipes and the spray version, because he'd tried them on a mask he was about to throw away, and found his mask is now, his words.."almost like new and not leaking anymore."

I do speak with customers who use Simple Soap which doesn't contain any additives, so just be careful the soap you are using hasn't got any added moisturisers etc., or it could end up damaging the mask seal which in turn will start to cause leaks again.  Meanwhile, great you're having more success now

Hi Kath,

the wipes that I got from mask and machine supplier are called Citrus II Cpap Mask Wipes, in a tub with green lid containing 63 wipes.

We only use Simple Soap as wife is allergic to scented soap.

That's surprising Ian, as those are the same ones and I rate them highly and use them all the time plus the spray.  I like them for speed too!  I personally like to keep water away from my mask cushion, which is why I only use the spray once a week as that needs rinsing off.  More importantly, glad you're sorted!
