I use the SoClean and love it.  It's particularly good for people more vulnerable to respiratory issues.  You can read genuine reviews here and most are 5 star http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/soclean-cpap-bipap-sanitiser-cleaner/ac...  Your clinic are correct though in that you do need to clean the facial oils from your mask everyday.  If not then the facial oils can affect your skin and also cause the mask to leak.

Thanks Kath. My clinic claimed that they’d never heard of the SoClean sanitiser which sommewhat amazes me.  Cleaning off the facial oils with a spray or wipe  is OK but the hassle of wet cleaning the mask, and head gear every day was often beyond me and quite often I didn’t do it, which is why I bought the SoClean machine.

One further point - I spray my mask with the sanitiser you sell ( and sometimes use your wipes) but I have been in the habit of simply wiping off the residue with a clean paper hankie ( it’s such a haslle to wipe off with water)

Any advice on this?

Perhaps all the clinics aren't aware of the SoClean Bob, but there are also other clinics who are interested in purchasing the larger industrial SoClean themselves, although it's very expensive.

When you use the CPAP Spray it does need rinsing, but I only use that once a week as I prefer my masks not to be soaked in water often.  I would use the CPAP Wipes daily, either before or after putting into the SoClean and they don't need rinsing.  You can place the headgear inside the SoClean.  I'd be washing the headgear itself about once a fortnight.

Oh dear. Looks like I'm in trouble!

I have used a CPAP machine for more than 10 years (not the same one) and currently have a Remstar System One SE. Have just seen an advert on TV for the SoClean which got me wondering how often are you supposed to clean your system. My mask gets a daily wipe and I rinse and change the water in the humidifier tank. Do I need to start a ritual clean of my system including hose? (the hose is replaced yearly). Is there a cheaper alternative to SoClean or do I just bite the bullet and have a cleaner sleep?

I still haven't seen the advert Andy, but lots of people are contacting us about purchasing.  First and foremost, whether with the SoClean or not, it is important to keep our equipment cleaned.  You're doing the right thing cleaning your mask daily - especially ensuring you get rid of facial oils which can cause leaks and skin irritation if not removed.  Also tipping out the remaining water from the humidifier and rinsing it daily is correct.  It's also advisable to clean the hose weekly - a soak in soapy water is fine.  If you get a cold or infection, then it's advisable to clean the hose more often - possibly with something stronger like Milton sterilising tablets or solution and perhaps a quick dunk of the mask in this too.  However, it is NOT recommended to use this type of solution longterm and is will damage the cushion.

You always get the truth of us at the charity, and despite selling the SoClean (and using it myself) I would advise that if you're vulnerable to respiratory infections then it is worth laying out the cost of the SoClean.  I'm glad I use it myself, but we do not promote it heavily as we are mindful that not everyone can afford this.  If you can, then it's worth considering though.

Thank you for quick reply. The advert was on TV again this afternoon with a web address that links to an Amazon site. After a bit of research I have found a UK seller for £245 with 30 day return. Still not convinced so called my Respiratory Lab who had not heard of this device and didn't think it would be something available via NHS. 

I have found on both Amazon and eBay similar devices that claim to use Ozone to clean 99% bacteria from the system. Other websites give the impression that they are not required.

My main concern is that I wake up with a very dry mouth. Have tried adjusting the temperature on the humidifier and even switched it off. It maybe my medication that causes this and I will mention it again to my GP. The hose and filter have had a good clean today

The SoClean will never be supplied by the NHS as they can't afford to give out products like this.  We have the SoClean at the charity at the price we've been told it has to be sold for https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/soclean-cpap-bipap-sanitiser-cleaner.html but it is eligible for zero rated VAT.  I would definitely not be looking at the copycats which are usually made in China, but there is another serious competitor whose name I've forgotten, but I believe due to it requiring no filter the Ozone is released into the air and also everything has to be taken apart, so it's not something we'll be looking into.

The SoClean isn't an essential item, but very helpful for people vulnerable to respiratory infections, which we've been told of time and time again by people.  It definitely won't help with the dry mouth (if that's what you was meaning) and definitely certain medications exacerbate this.  Many people in your position do also use the Xylimelts https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/xylimelts-dry-mouth-discs.html  I'm lucky not to have a dry mouth, but I sometimes leave my humidifier at home when travelling and take the Xylimelts instead.

Thanks for supporting our charity with your order Andy, and they'll be sent out tomorrow.  I love the Beaumont Citrus Wipes and have tried all the others, and these are definitely the best.  I use them everyday. Hope you find the Xylimelts help and just be patient in trying out where the best place in your mouth is for them.  I only use 1 disc but some people need 2.  Try 1 first and don't be tempted to wiggle your tongue on it until it's stuck lol

Hi Kath

In relation to the Soclean do you know if any finance is available to purchase one of these machines? I do not mind spending that amount on one but would be very helpful especially this time of year to purchase one on a finance agreement.
