Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hi,

Using my airsense 10 has given amazing results with only one problem, flatulence, has anyone found any way this can be cured or reduced?

Unfortunately, this can be a common problem Chris and in actual fact there's a video on this forum which is the most viewed video of them all about this.  Here's the link to find it quickly http://hope2sleepguide.co.uk/video/get-rid-of-burping-and-gaswind  Also, if you're having mask leaks this can be a cause or if you're using a nasal mask and opening your mouth.  In fact even having the mouth open with a full face mask can cause this and some people resort to wearing chin straps with full face masks.  I would try to fix this without though first so there's less equipment to put on.

No not really, just let the wind go free

It can be a bit embarrassing though, funny, I was never bothered with it on my old machine which was on a much higher pressure.

Hi, it’s interesting to read Chris’s comment that the AirSense 10 has given him flatulence whereas his previous CPAP wasn’t a problem.  I’m new to using a CPAP and have been provided with an AirSense 10 which I’m sure is an excellent piece of equipment but in the mornings my stomach is usually blown up like a balloon. It’s an unfortunate side effect. I‘m wearing a full face mask - an AirTouch F20 normally and last night tried the DreamWear full face mask, but the result was much the same. I did try wearing my AirTouch mask with a ChinUp strip but it interfered with the seal so not ideal. Seeking a solution here!

This is a common problem Sally, and especially when new to CPAP, irrespective of whatever machines people use.  It's definitely not just an Airsense 10 problem.

If you've not clicked on the link I posted above in my reply to Chris then have a look at it, as it's a video by a well respected american sleep tech.

Very often this does settle down with time, but you trying the strips was worth a go, as even with a full face mask if people can keep their mouths closed as best they can it usually helps.  We've actually got a new product that will be on the website within the next few days - a soft neck collar which helps to keep the mouth closed.  If you're on our newsletter list you'll hear about this.  Here's the link to subscribe if not NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIPTION or keep your eye on the website https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/shop.html

It is very common for people to get wind in there stomach using CPAP/APAP.  As Kath say, at the start it can be quite bad for some people, others are not bothered.  In fact the ResMed is less likely to give you this problem, but saying that everyone is different.  The ResMed does respond and keep pressures close to what you need.  Some other machines are a lot worse and the older ones are worse still, but a lot depends on the pressure you are at or the pressure the machine get to.  Some people adapt quickly, others don't and just have to put up with it.  Some people can feel as if their stomach is pumped full of air in the morning, if you are one of those people I feel sorry for you, but I can't suggest anything to help either that will not interfere with your treatment.

I could always go on the stage, le petomaine made a living I believe

It would depend if there was a smell or not

"Just to tidy this up, I finally had an in-person review by my sleep clinic yesterday, who agreed the ResMed AirSense 10 was "wheezy" and replaced the machine."

Hi everyone, today I received my rental kit - prisma smart max, plus a Philips dreamwear mask which I’ve been wearing unconnected to try and get used to it. I just did a mask fit test using a medium mask and got a constant red/orange leak warning…See More
