Hi everyone! I just wanted to gather some opinions on nasal pillow masks; which are your favourites? I currently use the Resmed Swift FX Bella loops, but am finding that they hurt my ears during the 12-16 hours I'm hooked up. I can't use the regular FX headgear as it causes a massive lump on my head from the buckle. I may need to buy a mask myself unfortunately, as my hospital only supply the Swift FX, so I want to find one which I'm fairly sure will work for me (and is hopefully not too expensive!).
Ideally, I'd like to use a nasal mask, but the skin on the bridge of my nose is pretty battered and delicate from years of pressure sores from BiPAP mask abuse! Do you know of any nasal masks which avoid the bridge of the nose?
Many thanks!
Catherine

Hi Catherine. The recently-released Respironics GoLife nasal-pillows mask is getting good feedback from our customers. You can see it on the website here http://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/products/84 I can't speak for whether the headgear would cause the same problem as the Resmed FX does though, but I do particularly find that both Respironics and Fisher & Paykel's headgear are both comfortable for me. One of our forum members also put a review on this mask on the forum HERE and there's another discussion about it HERE.
Also, take a look at the blog I wrote a few months back on different masks to see if there's any help for you on there http://www.sleepapnoeablog.com/choosing-a-cpap-bipap-masks-for-slee...
I'm like you, and at all costs (and I mean cost, as my clinic don't supply my favourite mask either) I avoid masks that go near the bridge of my nose. I have quite a slim bony nasal bridge and am prone to sores. The Nasal Soft CPAP Cushions do help though, and when I'm trialling new masks before adding them to the website I use one of those (they're out of stock at the moment and we're desperately waiting for our new supplies).
I'm a big believer in not using the same type of mask all the time, if it's possible for people, so that the pressure isn't constantly being applied to the same part of the face. I alternate between the FitLife and Hybrid (but they're both full face masks for mouth breathers).
Hope this helps, but as with all advice we try to give, do bear in mind that 'what suits one person, doesn't necessarily suit another' unfortunately!
