NHS waiting time for CPAP machine - can anyone beat this?
Diagnosed on 18th December 2023 with severe sleep apnoea.
Received letter a few days later advising that earliest I could get a CPAP is 23rd December 2024 - over a year! This is in Oxford.
I'm prepared to go anywhere in the country to get a machine although South East/London would be easiest. Does anyone have any experience of better/worse waiting times?

Sorry to hear this Alex, and that does sound like a long wait for severe sleep apnoea. The problem has been due to a worldwide CPAP shortage so this is happening at a lot of clinics. Take a look at nearby clinics on this link but you'd need to contact them to find out how long their waiting lists are https://sleep-apnoea-trust.org/sleep-apnoea-trust-list-nhs-sleep-cl... and you'd then need transferring or ask your GP to make a new referral, and you'd need the sleep clinic to provide your sleep study results for a different clinic.
It's hard for us to know all the waiting list lengths at the different clinics and if you're a member of our support group on Facebook you could ask the question there https://www.facebook.com/groups/hope2sleepcharity/

That's really too long to wait!
I was diagnosed in August 2023 also with severe sleep apnoea. It took 6 months from seeing the Dr > sleep study > getting a CPAP machine. I was given a CPAP machine on the same day of diagnosis because of an high 72 AHI. I was shocked about the whole thing TBH as I was not expecting any diagnosis :-(
I believe it was my Oxygen levels at 81% that helped me secure an urgent machine - has your Sleep consultant shared your results with you?I am seeing lots of positive results on CPAP and wouldn't be without it now - I'd definitely embrace the machine when you first start using it.
An idea perhaps? Consider buying a Travel CPAP to go with your future home machine? I don't know the rules - but I think you can buy one with a prescription? This way you can use this as your temporary machine while you wait for the NHS to issue you one?
I’m looking at the ResMed AirMini at the moment for my travel - it has the same blower inside as the larger machines. The charity also has machines too.

Thanks for the replies. Today I got a referral to a new hospital in London which is quoting a 6 month wait time.
My oxygen was at 89% during the sleep study, I'm not sure what the other figures are.
