Humidifiers
Hi All
I am looking for some advice about my Humidifier, for the last week I have had it set on 4 or 5, but it seems to be making no difference.
The water level go down by about 25% all night (7hrs) whichever setting I have it on .
Could some one advise me about Humidifiers

Do you mean it's making no difference to your dryness Edward? Which humidifier have you got? Getting the correct setting is a challenge in itself and hope we folk on here can help.

Which humidifier are you using with which machine?
I'm going to guess 'M' Series with built in humidifier. The heating temperature difference at the top end - 4 or 5 - in them is not large so at this time of year, with higher ambient temperatures, the amount of water evaporated will not vary hugely.. How did you get on in the winter?
The fact that it goes down 25% rather than 75% suggests it is either a faulty 'M' Series or is something else, like an Apex.
The real question, surely, is whether or not you are getting adequate humidification to keep you comfortable.
In summer,some people put crushed ice into their humidifier chamber.

Hi this is a very interesting thread.

I have problems with mine and have been told it is down to lack of heating in the room, but I cannot bear heating because of the burning flushes I have. Have shut the window however on the colder nights :(
My medication dries my mouth out all the time and is uncomfortable and unless I have the dial on 3 + and drown in moisture I am still very dry mouthed and throat ... however, the water is great during the night to let trickle into mouth lol (yes I used huggies and holder - without them I would have really drowned) water blowing in through the nose pillars on my previous mask was horrendous ewwww .... and the hose used to block with water.
I am in a no win situation ' moist' of the time (lol, no apologies, pun intended)
my tank has only ever gone almost dry once or twice (warm nights and settings on III but mostly stays at just below the fill level on I or II and I dare not go any higher than II at the moment
Winter has certainly been a very trying time for me ...

Crushed ice is to cool folk - you'd have to melt it and heat it to get humidification, after all.
Your situation is not 'no win' by any means. The world has engineers to ensure that! If you read the 'Rainout' thread, currently at the bottom of the list, you'll learn of the solution. Update: there are shortly to be two solutions, one substantially less expensive than the Aussi other. The new one is to be available soon - and you can afford to wait now the spring is here.

Back to Edward who started the thread - even though he hasn't posted since.
Sunday morning is my PAP cleaning time and I realised that no one has mentioned scale on the humidifier heating surface. The more scale the less heat transfer. So I wondered if Edward's humidifier is scaled or if it is shiny clean.

Well, you have given me the confidence to up the humidifer to try again and the last two nights with the warmer weather, I have managed with it on 3.5 which is much better (previously kept it on I)
I have had window open and although not too comfortable body wise with warmth it is better overall.
I have had bad throat like razors since friday and the extra moisture is much more comfortable.
With the fx mask the water hasn't gone in nose, but dribble out at chin which I can cope with. (previous mask I used to inhale the water through my nose) The tank has emptied on both occasions and previously I had not gotten any scale, but there is a thin coating on now which I need to get rid of. Gotta get more white vinegar in lol.
I stayed in bed today longer than for ages and actually got more sleep.
thankies all round and I will persist, but it would certainly be easier if the British weather would be more stable:)

I understand it really depends on the room I am sleeping in the room tempture as well.

I know that some people have tried local heat ... I mean heaters very small close to the machine, but is there any thoughts out there with something like those heated stands you put plants on etc? or underbed gravel heaters for fish?

Hi TF - I'm bad in that I don't leave my humidifier reservoir to dry every day (just rinse and refresh just before bed) so do end up with scale around the sides (although curiously not on the heating plate). I don't know what anyone else uses to descale but I find a bit of white vinegar topped up with water and left for an hour very effective to shift anything. You really DO need to let it air afterwards though!
