I posted this on another website I am on and got some great responses from my friends, it was more to give others hope.
The last two nights I slept for 8 hours, I have never done that before and for the first time in 49 years I set my alarm clock and woke up to it. I have been on CPAP for a bit over a year now and to me I never needed to set an alarm clock as I never would sleep long enough to have to wake up to a clock. This may sound strange to a 'normal' person but it is a new revelation for me. I just wanted to tell my friends and hopefully give some of the 'newbies' and people looking at CPAP some hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, lol. On top of the alarm, the hairs on my legs are growing back (I am a hairy man, too much information!), most came off, I think due to lack of oxygen in my body and my eyes that used to be bloodshot daily from lack of sleep and drugged up on meds are now clear. I am down to the lowest level of antidepressant I have been on fo two years and plan to come off it fully shortly. I know this is a lifelong treatment rather than a cure but who cares as long as it works and it will work for some better than others, just wanted to share with others on this forum.
Over the weekend, I have just gone off my antidepressant fully and although I'm getting all the withdrawl symptoms, it's just another part of my journey.

Thanks for sharing yet another positive story of the changes treatment for OSA can bring. Just can't believe it's already over a year since you were first on here as a 'newbie' - now here you are as an expert helping others!
Interesting that you say you never slept long enough for an alarm to wake you, as I was the opposite.... I used to joke that if I didn't have someone around to wake me up, then I would have slept on forever (I slept through most alarm clocks no matter how loud they were).
Kath, I'm not sure about 'expert'. With the alarm, I suppose it shows that we are all different and the way it effects us is also different. I suppose it can go either way over sleeping or not getting enough. It's been a cold winters day today, minimum of 4c and got up to a bit over 10c, isn't that a summers day in England lol.
Don't even talk about our wonderful summer this year :( 12 deg with rain at the moment!

Just an update, I went for my 6 monthly sleep check up (service) on Thursday and there was my Dr and an Intern (not quite a Specialist) I showed him my figures from Sleepyhead and explained them to him as I have the same software they use to read my machine. He almost fell off his chair he said he had never seen anyone that knows as much about sleep apnea and sleep in general without a medical background. He wanted to know if they could put my photo on their website as a successful client. Then they charged me $143.00. I should have said yes but I'll charge you $143.00 lol. I go for a sleep study on the 9th August just to check that everything is OK. They like doing them after the first year here then every couple of years. I'm actually looking forward to this one as I take my own mask and hose and are now familiar with the whole sleep study process, I might get some more sleep than the last time. Will give an update on my results in about a months time.
Great to hear Terry and when you go get a bill prepared for $150.00 to present them with at your next appointment lol. That's a good system you have out there with regular sleep studies too!
Kath, it is a good system but we have to pay and sleep studies are quite expensive. There about $1000 and we get half back on insurance then you have to pay for the hospital room. I still think it's worth it to get an accuate reading. Some people never have a follow up sleep study. How are those Olympics going? Are you going to any events? I have been speaking to another lady in the US (don't know her name) and suggested she join Hope2sleep. She's 72 and had her CPAP for a year with no help and doesn't want to use it, I have talked her back nto using it and she is going to try to down load Sleepyhead. I thought it would be good if she joined being a female and getting advice from other ladies.
I've just converted the $1000 and today it's around £665. No wonder they like you to have one every couple of years!! Is it really necessary? I can understand if things change, such as weight loss or gain, but by checking your SleepyHead reports you'd know yourself if things have got worse or better.
Did you see the Opening Ceremony last night? It was really good. We're not going to any events as the tickets are like gold-dust - apart from for the football, but we see enough of that on the tv. I was in London last Monday and it was heaving with all the people who were already there ready for the Olympics.
Well done on getting the lady back on CPAP - she'll thank you for it in the long run. Hope she finds us on here for extra support.
