Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient
As per the title really.
Sleepyhead and my resmed machine's precis. screen tell me that my AHI has been at or below 1.00 each night for several weeks. I've also been able to sleep through the night with few, if any periods of wakefulness. On occasion, I've felt that I've not woken up at all.
However, recently during the day, I'm as tired as I've ever been. Come 4pm and I'm struggling to stay awake and have to have a nap.
These days of extreme tiredness are the exceptions. But, every day I'm yawning and feeling lethargic from just after I've gotten up. It's just as if I'm not using my machine.
I have no idea what's going on. Does it take time for the tiredness to dissipate? Or am I expecting too much from the treatment?
I'm really confused.

Just butting in, as Alistair's obviously not had chance to come back to answer you yet Elliott and I don't want you worrying...... He means are you able to check on your oxygen desaturations? Some people use Pulse Oximeters which can record your levels overnight whilst sleeping and is a good indication of your AHI, as often drops in oxygen levels coincide with apnoeas. However, low oxygen desats can happen for other reasons too.

No it's not. It's a way to maintain that your o2 is stable. An ox reading does not accurately check for OSA.

No idea what my sats are. :-)
I did have to wear something on my finger in my follow up compliance test. I assume that will record oxygen levels. I won't know the results until my appointment with the consultant in September.
Yes, that's it Elliott - it will have been used during your sleep study and compliance test. Like I said, some people use the pulse oximeters at home too, as a way of keeping their eye on how things are going. Are you feeling any better yet?
Thanks for that, Kath. I suppose that I am feeling a little better. I am certainly sleeping through the night, with at most one brief moment of wakefulness.
I awake much earlier than I used to before I was diagnosed. I make up that this is because I'm getting 'better quality' ,more restorative sleep and that my body therefore needs to spend less time in bed.
Who knows if that' correct or not.

That's good to hear Elliott and hopefully things will only get better :) I remember being shocked when I first started waking up early too. Before CPAP I never even used to hear the alarm clock.
