Help with Resmed Mirage Quattro Mask
"Hi Norman Jagger here having problems with my mask as I have to remove it quite often to clear my throat this is probably due to the heavy scarring from radio therapy which no one can do anything about it dissolved my cancerous tumor.
The trouble I have is getting my mask right as quite often after a while air leaks out and the noise awakens me. I was due to visit the hospital next week but the visit has been postponed a month. I wonder if anyone has advice on face masks? The one I have is ResMed Mirage Quattro - this is the second one, the first being small size, but I have a medium size one now but still get leaks .Any ideas on a different mask would be appreciated.I also have a heart implant Defibrillator and pacemaker and had a 5 artery bypass in 86 so I am a fighter so welcome to help.

You certainly are a fighter Norman, having gone through all those problems and come out the other side :) It's always annoying when you have to remove the mask during the night for any reason, thus interrupting the seal.
First question is "do you have a humidifier?" as if not, this might just help with your throat problems.
Whilst many people have success with the Mirage Quattro, it might be that it's not the mask for you - especially when you talk about sizing issues. I had the same problem with the ComfortGel Mask - the small is too small, and the medium too big.
Bearing in mind you're due at the clinic soon, it would be worth asking to try some different masks and to make sure you tell them that you often have to remove yours in the night, as you need a mask that's easy to re-seat on your face. The FitLife Full Face Mask I use is easy to re-seal (when I have to scratch the annoying nose itches) and another idea would be to try a nasal mask/nasal pillows along with a chin strap to ensure your mouth doesn't open. If I were you I would take my machine along and try the masks on with the air blowing so you can practise having a go at taking it off whilst it's still blowing and re-sealing it.

Norman, I use the Mirage Quattro and it does take time to get leaks out. A couple of suggestions, use mask liners and have the hose coming from above your head not by your side. You may need to adjust the mask using the dial at the top of the mask. I adjust the straps depending on where the leaks come from, if they are around the mouth, adjust the bottom straps, if they are from the top of the nose the top straps. I do agree with Kath, you may need to try different masks until you come up with the right one, I tried 5 before I decided to stick with this one. I still sometimes get some leaks, if I do I normally turn my CPAP off re adjust then turn it back on, this way you basically start your treatment again like at the beginning of the night, it is annoying but much better than the alternative, good luck and keep us updated.
